I'm arachnophobic myself, but normally game spiders don't bother me. These... kinda do. Not like a picture of a real spider (even "cute" ones) where I have a near heart attack, but more on the level of being near a house spider in real life (basically uncomfortable with an aversion). I admit I've put effort into working on my fears, which I think all people should do when afflicted with a phobia. It's a long, slow process, but I think it's worth it since it's started generalizing to other bugs seen up close and personal. Phobias can do that. Still, I think it's more constructive to just pick them off with arrows or magic than it is to turn them into something else. It is, after all, a game. Consider it a way to train yourself for real life. Otherwise you could go to a shrink and pay out the nose for basically the same service if you want to try VR treatment.
To be honest, I'm only freaked out by certain kind of spiders such as the Tarantulas and Widows which give me sudden if not instant panic attacks. So mix both of them in Skyrim and what do you get? A FROSTBITE SPIDER.

Hang on, hang on, hang on.
Does anyone else remember Unforgotten Realms? Holy crap Mike, it's a Spider-Bear? If this is some kind of stealth tribute, I'm so totally all over it.

Sorry bud, but if you can't mod it, I don't see it as an issue they should deal with.

I mean, if you were scared of heights, should we ask them to make a patch to level the terrain? Should they make a patch to remove the Kajiit for people who are scared of cats? [insert more straw arguments here]

The game is what it is, take it or leave it. It's not the developer's job to cater to your specific needs. Mods on the other hand....

Hmm, spiders do not "jump on your face in real life". 99% of them are much more scared of you than you are of them. The remaining 1% are freaking nuts, but they are rare, such as our local Brazilian Wandering Spider, which is, in fact, a spawn of Astaroth bent on destroying all life on the planet. Those babies try to jump and bite anything in their immediate perimeter, from insects to horses and cars.

Since you are probably not Brazilian like me, though, feel safe knowing that pretty much all spiders you will even encounter in your life will scurry away from you as fast as their spindly legs can make it.

Have you tried not being arachnophobic?

Anyway... I wouldn't be against this if it were optional since I personally think the spiders are overused and out of place...

There is no reason for me to fear spiders. At all.

Note. Some people seem to think that killing the spiders should feel good for me. It doesn't, they're still there on screen creeping me the hell out.a dead spider is still a spider, and I still hate them.

weirdly, I quite like scorpions. Gimme scorpions instead Bethesda.
This.

Personally I think there should be a mandatory patch that adds more spiders and adds bigger ones too. Like mammoth sized spiders.

Mammoth sized equivalent of the Goliath Bird Eating spider... a Dragon Eating Spider.

sounds like you'd fit in with... I think it was Farkas(?) from the companions!

Maybe a patch that added a instakill-script to the spiders, but if you just flat-out removed spiders, you'd have to remove waaaaay too much content. The spiders were kinda heavily ingrained into the game so it would just be removing part of the experience...

Bookshelves don't work currently so hell no.

I suppose if they manage to get all the other important things corrected (doubtful), still no. Then it is time to work on DLC. I am mildly arachnophobic, used to be highly arachnophobic but have taken steps to cure it.

The irrational fear is the problem, not a video game.

Are you fucking kidding me or did I just tumble knee-deep into some trolling thread?
It's called a phobia. People with them can't help it. Don't call someone a troll for something like this. My previous girlfriend was the same way. Couldn't even stand things that looked LIKE spiders.

Well considering dragons have been extinct for several hundred (if not thousand of years) such a species would also be extinct as well. Not that such a species would even dent the dragon population. Dragons are immortal after all, they can't be killed by normal means.

It would probably have to be some kind of lesser Daedra, maybe a really old Spider Daedra?
Then again it could be just a really old spider, if exoskeletal creatures can grow to the size of large dogs, and giant armoured lizards can fly, then what's stopping spiders getting bigger? They would probably just be boss creatures though.

That would be SO FUCKING AWESOME.

Almost as awesome as Thresher Maw VS Reaper.

Giant Spider VS Fucking Dragon.

Someone needs to do this when the editor comes out in January.

You'd think the ability to take the spiders out in a blast of fiery nuclear glory or beat their ass in with giant hammer would go far to alleviate some of that phobia, or even be a bit cathartic.

Is this a thread about how the gaming experience is diluted because of some mental -well- issues?
That seems a little - well - off track.

What about suffering from paedophobia (fearing children). They are obnoxious and insulting and alomst follow the character in every major settlement. Worst part: They are freaking immortal. There is no way to silence them.

I think you are seeing this the completely wrong way:
Go fight your fears!
[HEADING=1]Skyrim has therapeutic value[/HEADING]
You can now conquer your fears and slay eachs cuty fuzzy and to you horribly terrifying monster spider with your Inceneration spell OR your Daedric Warhammer of Annihilation.

Conquer your fears. What kind of Dovahkin are you, if you're unable to face your own fears and taking them down with your own hands.
