Here's my prediction: Origin gets its few exclusive titles, Origin then becomes more irrelevant than it already is because nobody wants to pay EA their full 60 bucks and everyone buys from Steam, D2D, or Retail instead (Depending on the particular title). The End.

You might ask yourself now, "But what about the small percentage of the PC Gaming world who don't pay attention to things and DO buy EA's games from Origin?!" Well, sure, there are some people who would buy a few things from Origin, but because anyone in this boat would already know about Steam, they wouldn't get anything they didn't have to outside of Steam.

You might also ask yourself as a follow-up "But what makes you so sure it's such a small part of the PC Gaming community that would buy through Origin?" To which I say, how many people with computers good enough to run Battlefield 3 wouldn't be informed on the gaming industry? And the poll results on this thread alone supply adequate information for me to know I'm right.

Nobody bought games through the EA store unless there was a ridiculous sale (Like when I bought Bad Company 2 for 20 bucks when it was still damn new), and nobody will buy games through the Origin store barring the same exception.

Steam already does more beyond allow me to purchase games. I don't think I would ever purchase a game from Origin.

I don't give a flying shit. If Origin's got good deals, I'll buy from there, if Steam's got good deals, I'll buy from there. That way, I save money, because money is WAAAAY more important than "Loyalty" to a distribution platform, also, it's the most sensible thing to do.

I'll have both. EA titles that don't go to steam (Battlefield, Dragon Age, Crysis. ect.) I'll get on Origin. I use steam for whatever is on there, like TF2 and Amnesia. Whenever I need one, I'll use it. Im keeping my EA titles on origin and my others on steam. Its not really a big deal.

Competition is always good but the way EA is handling this isnt really competition so much as forming a monopoly over their content. Maybe its just me but I see conflict of interest when a major publisher takes aims to create its own distribution system and locks other businesses out of selling the same product.

Not that Im a lawyer or anything but I recall some US commerce laws that they are probably skirting the bounds of

Either way it makes no difference to me as long as I dont have to download either to run a game I buy the actual disks for. If I do, then frankly the distribution system and the company can deal without my money since I wont be buying their game

I'm into physical copies personally, I won't buy it if I don't actually own it. So screw Steam, screw Origin, they can both fuck off!

Well considering that the EA download manager was the biggest pile of crap I've ever had to wrestle with (It's compulsary for the Sims 3) I have to say I'm with Steam.

Although it not my biggest concern all this splitting up of platforms is going to make PC achivements even more pointless becuase everything will be spread around. Windows Live (nuuuh) Origin and Uplay for starters.

I don't mind using Origin but I won't be buying anything off there. I'll stick to hard copies and Steam.

Neither. Digital distribution is the enemy. I haven't PC gamed since Fallout 3 back in 08 or 09 (I can't remember anymore)
I understand peoples specific arguments against steam and whatnot, but how can you be against digital distribution full stop? Its convenient, cheaper for everyone all around and allows indie developers to self publish. Unless you own Game Korner, Mom and pop shop then I don't get it.

EA isn't publishing any games remotely worth buying anyway.

Origin has absolutely 0 reasons to use.

I think this explains my option.

Also,I think Steam is a pretty cool service with it's annual sales that makes awesome games inexpensive and affordable.

My position is the same as it always is. Until these digital distribution clients actually impart ownership rights, and stop selling licenses instead of games, then I hope they duke it out in a bloody battle and obliterate each other out of existence.

Yeah I get it. Steam has awesome "sales" But those prices directly reflect that there is no actual ownership and Steam in its discretion can revoke your license with or without reason and every steam user has agreed to this as well as agreed to if their account is closed that they are not entitled to any form of recompense for what has been taken away from them.

It astounds me that people buy so vehemently into this. I mean Most people wont buy gold from chinese gold sellers in MMOs because "why would I pay real money for something that isnt real" then why is it that people miss that when it comes to digital distribution?

So yes.. Let them duke it out and destroy each other. Perhaps we can get a proper method of digital distribution that isnt founded on such a faulty premise.
What makes you think you own any of your physical copies? The only thing different between digital and physical games is the disc. You own the piece of plastic and a license, it's ignorant to think otherwise.

Sure you can. People grumpy cause

1. Steam did the hard labor setting up digital distribution, getting people to accept it as a medium and growing it into an industry force. They did the legwork. Now you got some big players wanting their piece of the pie steam baked and withholding some big name games which is considered a "dick move" or "Viva la Free Market" depending on your world view.

2. YOUR VERY OWN 2 STOP SHOP FOR ALL YOUR GAMING NEEDS. I already have Steam running in the backround, how many of these programs am I expected to get? One for each major publisher? Slippery slope is a difficult argument because it requires predicting the future. But honestly this seems like a mini gamer centric 90's web bubble. All the developers spend a bundle trying to make their digital platform the bees knees and they all fail but 1 or 2 when the dust settles. Meanwhile the games have to either get a boatload of programs and juggle. Or buy hard copy.

As for you the lowly consumer. Feel free to support (or not) whatever you please as they are NOT mutually exclusive. Good luck not supporting them if you want to play their MMO though...

Well...

If Origin is going to be the exclusive place to buy EA titles on line, and they price lower than retail (or even the exact same price without tax) what logical reason do I have to not buy the game from Origin? If I have to decide between Origin and not playing Mass Effect 3 I know what I'm going to do.

Steam, I Dislike EA with a huge passion, to the point where I publicly boycotted their games, and actually followed through.

Steam provide a reliable platform to download games, and the often offer large discounts and bonuses on even pre-release games.

The only reason I would use origins is if it was needed to run The Old Republic MMO. I wouldn't use it for anything else.
