No,It isn't a hate thread,no,its not a preferance thread. Its something that i've dwelled on recently. Why hate another console, why have the prefrence your entirely off of one detail? Yes,this is a lot like a PS,Xbox, and Wii thread, but a lot different. YES,We all know PC is the preferred System for games,YES,We all know Mac is far better for art compatibilitys,YES,We know Linux users have the most Access to plugins and the most knowhow. Why would that really matter? This is a lot like the days (and occasional one nowadays) when a war broke out over religions. PC and Mac,Mac and Linux,Linux and PC,All 3 fighting over one tiny difference that might not even matter. I want to to dwell on this. Yes,I use a PC,But I do it because it fits my budget and the fact I game a lot. PC is good for art too,and i'm sure Mac can run quite a few games. Linux may be harder to set up,but its the top of customability. I want to know everyones reasons WHY you prefer something,I don't want ANYONE starting a flame.

ANYONE.

Human nature. We always want to feel superior in the way we are or, in this case, the things we have.

Pc is better for games, Mac is better for arts and what not.

There, now we're comparing apples and oranges.

I dual booted with Windows and Linux for a while, but I found myself not using Linux very much so I deleted that partition. Last time I used a Mac was about 10 years ago in school, and I didn't care for it. Just personal preference I suppose.

I should also mention I have a Zune and a Xbox 360, which both prefer Windows.

Hardware wise
PCs because of the depth of hardware customization.
Software
PCs (especially XP) because, treated correctly, Windows is sturdy (My family has only suffered form the BSOD only once), and although you need to learn a bit when a new operating system comes out, or you're trying out Windows, that little bit of pain from the Windows School of Hard Knocks is surmounted by Windows' strength in certain areas (gaming is not the only one).

Dual boot linux and windows. After a year of using linux I've found myself using it more than windows as I as I only need a few programs that cannot run in linux. Still like windows just personal preference i guess. I haven't really had much experience with macs but I've heard good things about them however I cannot justify the asking price for that experience, if they where priced more competitively then i consider getting one

PC, it just works, once you know your way around windows and you are smart enough to be intelligent with your machine, the sky is the limit with windows.

I see absolutely no reason to change to mac or linux. I used linux quite a bit in college, never really saw the appeal really. Almost seems as if everyone who uses it is suborn, in a take this bill gates type of way. Its almost alternative for alternatives sake. I understand its purpose, but when people defend it so obnoxiously and bash windows so violently, it just completely turns me off ever using it.

Mac on the other hand, it has its purpose alright, if I get into the course I want, I will probably be buying a mac soon after. I hate mac fanboys with a passion though, worse than linux fanboys, xbox fanboys and ps3 fan boys all thrown in together. Please take steve jobs dick out of your ass please and listen to reason.

Mac cost too much for the same hardware-it is smaller though if that justifys the price
PC there is completion within it so you tend to get a parts for cheaper and it just plays more games
Linux its good if you know what the hell your doing but umbuntu isit very beginner friendly

I use Windows, because I can't afford one of those exceptionally expensive, yet fancy MacBook Pro's. I've got Ubuntu 9.10 on my School computer as a secondary OS if Windows decides to fuck itself up. But I haven't fixed WiFi drivers for that PC in Ubuntu yet...

I'm stuck with Windows because I play games, works fine for me though, I'm happy with it.

Really want to mess about with Linux, might get another HDD or a lappy to play with.

Haven't had much experience with macs, which is why it sucks when I have to use them and whatever ends up taking twice as long as it would do on my own computer.

I use Linux because I rarely play PC games (only Guild Wars, and that works perfectly through WINE) and I like the customisability. Also, I have bad experiences with Microsoft products in general. I've never really tried Mac but I'm not very interested in creating stuff... Which makes me wonder why I study virtual design at school.

I use a Mac, because I just moved from my dad's to my mom's house, and she bought me and brand new mac os x. Dying to get steam on it.
Damn straight, can't wait for Steam on Mac.

OT: I use a Mac because of my course at uni, it's a lot better for editing for videos and more creative things. But I understand that PC's can be good at those things too, and are usually considered better for games, bur Mac is catching up on that now. All in all it seems to just be down to what people prefer to use.

I tried to use Linux once, but I just couldn't grasp it completely and ran out of effort quite quickly. I'm sure it is good if you know what you're doing unlike me.

Due to a friend of mine I'm currently using Linux (Ubuntu, to be specific). While I haven't seen enough of it to determine how it compares (though I like the instant compatibility and packed-in programs), so far I very much like it, and the lack of games is on its way to being fixed [http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODIwNQ].

I use a Macbook Pro. It works just perfectly for me. I'm used to the way Macs work and work much more efficiently on them than I can on a PC. I'm a digital painter and my Mac runs CS4 pretty well and calibrates colour incredibly well at default settings. It works for me. If I feel the need to start PC gaming, I have Windows 7 on a partitioned part of my hard drive. As it stands, I use my X-Box for most of my gaming needs.

There are draws for all of them. I happen to be used to my Mac.

I have a insane rig that I use for gaming and all the Adobe products. I have a Mac for Logic and Mainstage, because I'm also a keyboardist. They just are tools.
