They did make another core SMT game.
It's called Strange Journey.
And this is no news at all. I'll be hyped when I see concept artwork or something.
Really? I thought Strange Journey was a side game, not like you know, Nocturne, SMT and SMT2.
Not even. It's an immense RPG that is very much a new core game. Interesting story, creepy dungeons, lots of new demons(including Fiends!), conversation recruitment, the works.
So you can confirm that it is SMT4 then? Because unlike SMT3:Nocturne/Lucifer's Call it does not have the prefix stating as such.
They deliberately did away with the numeric system. It's a new SMT. Period.
I'm inclined to not believe you. You might as well say that Digital Devil Saga and the Devil Summoner games are part of the core series too.
Believe whatever you want. I've played every game in the series. I know what a core game is.
Strange Journey is VERY MUCH SMT4.
It really seems like you don't since you're offering no proof beyond BECAUSE I SAY SO. There have been many games that weren't part of the core series that had the same style of gameplay, it's SMT's thing which is why DDS and Devil Summoner are such anomalies. Just because it plays like one means little.
DDS is not a core game. It doesn't have demonic recruitment at all. It's more of an SMT traditional RPG.
A great one, mind, but not a core game. Devil Summoner is close, but not quite. 3 & 4 are action RPGs.
They're similar to core SMT, but different. Devil Summoner 1 & 2 are closer to it, but there's one defining characteristic that makes SJ unique: it's got the SMT banner in Japan. Nothing since Nocturne has gotten that.
Also, the general design and atmosphere of SMT SJ is a huge throwback to SMT 1 & 2.
But regardless of beating this dead horse, it's a great SMT game, whether it's core or not. That's really all that matters.
