Its physical, anyone who says emotional is being WHINY.

If you want proof; you cant be driven insane by emotional pain. You can be driven insane by torture. The deepest, darkest emotional pain has nothing on the deepest, darkest physical pain.

Emotional pain is more common, Ill give you that.

Physical pain, emotional pain is easy to shrug off with various methods, for me video games help.

Physical pain you can't shrug off you have to wait for your body to heal which can depending on the injury take a long time. There is no getting away from it , painkillers only do so much.

Physical pain, obviously. The worst kind of emotional pain has nothing on having your bones crushed.

I say emotional, simply because it can screw someone up far worse than physical pain.

Physical. If you're in serious physical pain you may be seriously sick or injured. But with serious emotional pain doesn't actually threaten your life (except for suicide).

Hmm, that's a tough one. Would I rather suffer a broken wrist or a friend dying? That's a real tough one. That's like a Saw choice right there.
A better comparison would be "Would I rather be boiled alive/skinned/crushed or would I prefer to see my friend die in that manner?"

This captcha seriously has the 'beta' sign and expects me to write it out.

It is impossible to denote which one is truly the right answer in the long run, so I choose both.

Why? A broken bone only mends to be weaker, and an emotion sometimes can never be cured. Both of these ailments are flaws of the Human Body and Spirit, and so it is the Flaws that I choose, not the Answer.

I don't feel qualified to comment objectively because I haven't really experienced the extremes of either. I've never so much as broken a bone as far as physical pain goes, and the worst emotional experience I've ever had wasn't pain so much as anxiety. Both physical and emotional pain can eat away at a person's soul, if enough of it's present for a long enough time (I mean, unbearable emotional pain is usually why people commit suicide). I voted for physical pain, though. Mainly because I become absolutely miserable if I have to put up with it continuously for more than a few hours.

It's hard to have an unbiased opinion when for the last year I've been reminded daily of whatever it is that feels like a vice on my head. Then it really depends on the severity of either, not to mention that some physical ailments can affect the mind just as much as the body.

If the two were mutually exclusive I'd choose physical over emotional, for the saving factor that there are still times when such pain can be forgotten through other activities and/or medication.

It's a close run thing, but I'd say emotional pain, though to be honest both options are equally undesirable.

I haven't experienced either extreme, an am unlikely to, so the whole thing's a pointless hypothetical.
It depends entirely on what you consider emotional pain. If it's fear, then I'd choose physical pain. Your body can block that out.

Depends on the type of physical pain.

For instance, if we are talking about getting a cavity drilled without painkiller, bring it on! THAT pain feels great! On the other hand I would rather feel rejected and insignificant than break my arm.

In general, I would rather have emotional pain because it is my humble opinion that NEARLY all emotional problems can be blocked out or rejected by choice.

Emotional. When you reach a certain level of physical pain, you pass out. You have no such luck with emotional pain, because your body has limits, your mind doesn't.

I think it all depends on the individual. Everyone feels pain differently. Everyone has different pain tolerences as well. Some people are more emotional and feel that pain worse. Some people have low pain tolerence and cant stand physical pain.

As for me personally, from my experiences, having my collar bone broke and poking into my chest for over three days before finally going to the hospital, and having my heart broke over three years ago and still feeling it, I think you'll find me in favor of emotional pain bering worse.

Much much worse. That stays with you for YEARS. If you let it.

Emotional pain is worse in a sense. It sticks with you and it's difficult to deal with so most people don't bother. I'm one of those people, it's far easier just to ignore it and do something else having no one ask about it than physical pain. With physical pain you have it burdening on you with whatever move you make, you can't ignore it and people ask how it happened. I don't like that at all.

Physical pain.

Emotional pain is the worst in my opinion.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of soul crushing heart ache.
Except real heart ache.
In extreme cases, one can lead to the other. There have been cases of people genuinely dying from a broken heart.

... my ex-gf (and to some extent, me as well) would like a word... while I agree with you to a certain degree, I will say that you can be driven insane by emotional pain.

Physical pain is by far the worst of the two. Emotional pain is all in your head, there are several methods to easily and healthily deal with such (depending on your personality and whatnot). It's honestly easy to deal with, especially if you have any degree of discipline.

Physical pain on the other hand is much harder to deal with without narcotics. It's nigh impossible to ignore, by virtue of the fact that it's specifically designed that way, and it can be all consuming all too easily.

Emotional pain can be dealt with and processed over long periods. Physical does not have that luxury. It is right now, and always will be until you heal.
This, on the other hand, has some merit... though there is the issue of 'lingering' pain. Unless you have a medical condition that results in permanent pain as a result of either nerve-damage or oversensitive nerves (can't remember their names, but they exist), then all physical pain passes. The emotional pain that results from the passing of said intense and acute pain lasts for a while after (usually for a longer period of time).

Once again, it is a question of context, for the most part...

OT: I'm undecided... I'm a masochist, true, but I have my limits like everyone else (well, almost everyone else), but I've gone through more than my fair share of emotional traumas so...

Scenario: you're a soldier, and one of your squadmates with whom you are very close notices a grenade that's been thrown into your general vicinity. He/she runs for the grenade to save your life but almost doesn't make it in time, so you get wounded by the explosion, but you see your squadmate blown apart. In that moment, what hurts you more, the bits of dirt and metal in your body? Or the sight of your squadmate having his/her chest blown apart? Difficult, no? Five years later, which do you remember more?

It is impossible to imagine physical pain, that's why the experience of it makes it worse, while it is all too easy to imagine emotional pain, that's why the thought of it makes it worse.

As I said... I am undecided.

Kidney stone is the worst pain I've ever felt. The pain went away 15 minutes after I had received pain killers. Both emotional and physical pain takes time to cure. Ignoring either only serves bad causes. Medications that affects the mind are not very effective. Emotional pain wont heal unless you actively work on it. If you've never experienced something truly traumatic then you belong in the majority. Those who do experience it though might never recover from it. Same thing with physical pain though. It might be permanent and incurable. Saying that physical pain is far worse is wrong though. It might be worse, it might be the same, it might be better.
