Ohh yes. If given the choice in a single player game I will go out of my way to think of hilarious things to rename anything possible.

One timed when i played FFVII, i named Cloud Fucktard. It was fun for a couple of hours but when i turned of the console ( i played it on the PS3, i had forgott to saved. When i boat it up again i let Cloud stick with Cloud.

I called him fag, and barrett(?) slut. twas funny

If the character has an established name I don't really deviate from it. Or if I do make my own name, it's normal. Only every now and then will I make a fagballs type

Very very rarely. The only one i did so consistently was renaming Red XIII to Nanaki in FFVII

i also love when you get to cosmo canyon and despite his name BEING "nanaki", cloud still has no idea what the doorman is talking about.

I usually stick with GBlair88, GBlair or sometimes a_softcushion but my Steam name was Fagballz for a while and is now Major Asshole. When I started playing Pokemon Silver/Gold again recently (don't ask) I renamed my opponent Dickhead in one game and Asshole in the other. Quite amusing when he wants to fight me.

I rename them, but I don't make it ridiculous. I prefer immersion in my games rather than hilarity.

I usually am pretty uncreative, but I remember that I once took a page out of SpoonyOne's book, and named a dog "Anal". Anyone who can understand why deserves a cookie.

I never rename premade characters---if only because discussing the games they're in tends to get awkward if I know the character by one name and the rest of a forum knows him by his proper name.

Of course, for completely create-a-dude characters, I give names, though not usually too far out of the ordinary. Although I always give my Oblivion characters Russian names and my (white) Fallout 3 characters names like "Dr. Funkotronic". I don't know why.

When the game doesn't give me a name to begin with, I usually call my character "Mr. Tibbs."

Why, you ask? So that whenever anyone asks my name, I can imagine my character saying...

I rename my char if I have the chance to if I'm going to play the char it might as well be me & I give it my name Broken.

I've not really done it very often, but should I get the opportunity again, I think taking a leaf out of Yhatzee's book and renaming a character 'Twattycake' will bring a smile to my face.

There are only a handful of games I rename characters in and then only certain ones.

In the pokémon games I always used my own name and my cousin's name as my rival.

If I remember corectly you can do that but there are 2 lines it messess up
1: My name is Nanaki but every one calls me Nanaki
2: Damn cant remember. Sorry

the guy that told me this didn't know how to get Yuffie, unfortunately the he gave the controller to his mate to recruit her and after faithfully keeping all characters with their original names he ended up with a character called "Fuckbitch".

Only if I can see it being funny.
Like naming a character "By Jove" or "Great Scott". There is no time those names have no potential for humour.

Also, naming every character after the villain.
Shit gets really confusing after a while.

I just look around the room I am currently in when I give my characters names. So one time, my whole party became beverage names. (this also applies to CIV). So here we are, Sunkist, Lipton, Dr. Pepper, and Arizona are all off on a quest to stop the ultimate evil that is Coors! It makes me smile.
