This thread is, for all intents and purposes, about nothing. That might not be so bad but a mod approves! Sweet Jesus, am I the only one who sees this for what it is?

Oh yes, there are many stupid polls on this forum often with no link to thread, but throwing another one onto the mess achieves nothing. You don't protest a tip by putting your garbage there, no matter how sarcastic that garbage may be. I may be an old bore but I feel that if you are going to bring something to the attention of the community you should do so in a polite way that everyone can understand, rather than a cryptic thread that only the select few who hang around #escapist or the variants of that chat room will be able to understand.

I'd say that the biggest problem on the Escapist is a small group of people telling nearly everyone else that they post wrong in confusing ways and then leave to look own upon us (or maybe just you[I'm not sure how I stand around here]) once more. The amount of 'in' jokes and segregation in this place is reaching critical levels (Captain) and it makes me sick.

Satire does have it's place however this is most certainly not the place, nor the time. I can see why this could be taken as a good joke to those in the know but to those outside, they aren't going to have any idea what's going on. A new user, even as new as a couple of months, is going to be confused regarding the nature of this thread. Not everyone, obviously, but some most certainly. In my opinion creating a thread that goes out of it's way to confuse people, not everyone but only a particular group of people (the newbies) is way, way, way wrong.

The horribly ironic thing is that this is not picking up the slack or helping anybody. This thread is bullying the people that do not understand the forum and the way you should construct a thread, if they can even realise that. Posts such as Lord Krunk's guide to the forums and all the stuff done by scotth226 help make the forums a better place and encourages (shows really) how people can make better posts.

This does not. It pushes people around and encourages them to fuck off, it does not encourage people to be better posters.

It may still be a rock but spending time with it studying it, watching it and analyzing that rock results in you having a better understanding of that rock. You can then pass that knowledge to others and with that knowledge create a slightly better tomorrow.

What I'm saying here is that if someone does look into this kerfuffle deeply than nothing is learnt, our time is wasted and the cycle repeats. You may feel that I'm looking into this too deeply but the fact is that what this thread is for one group of people is not the same for another. Although it seems like everyone is content in making one line posts about nothing, so maybe I am wrong? Maybe people are happy to be fed things like this as long as they get to say something pointless? It seems strange to me, but maybe I am over thinking things.

All right, if you want to be an absolute downer and come into this thread I don't mind, but please stop continually badgering me because you didn't comprehend the joke.

Question: If this is so pointless why bother with telling me it is pointless? What is the point in that?

I do comprehend the joke and I do realise that this thread has a point. What I think you don't realise is that this threads point is too insult people. It may not be directly insulting, sure, but it is clearly a jab at a large amount of people on the forum.

If you have a problem with polls I feel that you should present that opinion in a clear and precise way so that you are not talking down to them but rather treating them as equals. I fully understand that the amount of polls is getting to be a real pain in the arse, I notice them everyday, but I would never construct a thread that treats anybody on this forum as lower class citizen.

If this was clear and precise I would have no problem. I would disagree sure, but slightlt admire the honesty and desire to stand up to what you view as a problem. Making a satirical thread is making fun of those who don't even realise they are the cause for laughter. It does nothing but insult people.
