In lieu of the cold shoulder, I would explain to this individual in GRUESOME detail the damage he has done to you and your friends. Then, once obfuscation is out of the way, judge his reaction:

1. aloof/uncaring: shun for the rest of the semester, or until he apologizes a minimum of three times (first time is never serious).

2. apologetic: guy didn't notice what he was doing. punch him in the shoulder for being an idiot, then forgive him 'cuz you're his friend (right?)

3. if he smiles AT ALL: kick his ass; he's no longer taking you seriously.

On another point, why are you going HERE of all places for advice? This is an internet forum.

Cock-block him for all eternity.

Either that or ignore him until he gives you money. Or lots of cake.

I've done worse trying to get a girl. I tried to invade Poland once, but she just wouldn't take interest in me.
It was that France-thingie, you should've stopped there. I don't know. Girls dig Paris.

Well, as much as I understand that you want to kill him, just ignore him.
If you jump him, chances are you guys might look like dicks in the end.

Beating someone up should only stem from defense of yourself or another from immediate physical harm.

Doing it for any other reason is just childish. Be mature and just brush him off.

Perceived insults and offenses only carry as much weight as you're willing to give them. If you don't give a fuck, then none of it has any effect on you. Would James Bond get into a slug-match in a bar with some loser who calls him names? He'd smirk, leave, and bang the hell out of the hot russian blonde he picked up on the way out.

No, don't beat him up. Ignore him. If he doesn't want his friends anymore, make it so. Don't insult him or attack him- just forget he exists and treat him like any other stranger. Let him stew in his own stupidity.

Well, if that had happened to me I would have simply cut ties with him and move on with my life. Any kind of mean reaction is only going to fuel to the fire. Nothing is going to change that fact that it's been said and done, nothing is going to go back to the way it was. Just move on without him.

All of you should, that would actually be the best route.
IF you are Australian that last word makes an amusing pun if you wern't aware.

On topic I'd tell him to rack off for a bit and let him back in a little bit later. If he does it again he is gone and only gets invited to parties occasionally.

Just stop speaking to him permanently. He's not worth getting worked up about now, since he is no longer your friend.

People do what they do because they want to on some level, and every action everyone takes will be judged, in a good or bad way. My advice? Treat his betrayal accordingly, cut him out, let him pick who he really is loyal to and, if he wants to make up what he's done, make him amend for his actions before letting him back in, afterall, what's done is done and we can't change it no matter how much we want to. Anyone deserves a chance to make up for their mistakes, how much is needed to prove he's changed is down to you and your friends.

Just ignore him. That's cold, worse than anything else you could do to him, trust me. Especially if he still wants to be friends with you guys. Sounds like he needs a lesson in where his loyalties should lie...
