I agree. He's always been funny, and helps me pass the time with laughter. I don't really take his reviews too seriously since he is mainly an entertainer. And really, what more could you want with a web show?Neonbob said:I like hearing him ramble on about the games he plays. I'm not a very good judge of good/bad/he's not as good as he used to be, etc.
He just makes me chuckle while I waste some time. And that is all I really ask of a webshow.
Which do you refuse to watch?NeutralDrow said:I usually find his reviews funny. There's only been a few that I felt were mediocre, and one that I refuse to watch. His style of humor is such that, even when I disagree with him, I'm still able to laugh.
Well, I could ask for a pet monkey and a thousand dollars to be sent to me every time I watched, but that's just being too damned hopeful for my liking.RedPandaMan said:I agree. That piqued my interest. What review will you not watch?NeutralDrow said:I usually find his reviews funny. There's only been a few that I felt were mediocre, and one that I refuse to watch. His style of humor is such that, even when I disagree with him, I'm still able to laugh.
Hmm, I'm really not sure why his reviews lately seem a little less up to par. Perhaps it was the shock value when I first saw one of his videos (the Fable one on Youtube). I had never seen a reviewer so blatantly funny and informative. The shock just seems to have worn off. However, I still fervently await every Wednesday for a good, humorous review.Akai Shizuku said:I don't see what you mean, kind sir.Fanusc101 said:As much as I enjoy Yahtzee (as he is the reason I found this wonderful site) his reviews seem to have been a little lackluster lately.
Personally I agree with this. They're getting back on track with the more recent red faction review but the recent ones have been more about the shock value than anything. E3 through to Overlord 2 have been especially guilty of this with the focus less on the review itself (though that's impossible with e3) and more about a tangental gripe (e.g. movies to games for ghost busters). As I said, they're returning to form but I think that a review should focus on the game more than anything else. Not that I'm against his humour it's just that without focus they're not much use as advice.Akai Shizuku said:I don't see what you mean, kind sir.Fanusc101 said:As much as I enjoy Yahtzee (as he is the reason I found this wonderful site) his reviews seem to have been a little lackluster lately.
I loved that E3 review so friggin' much.lostclause said:Personally I agree with this. Fair enough but I didn't. After all he's supposed to review games and I'd rather that he dug out an old and interesting game, like the thief series or painkiller, instead of making speculation over games which he'll probably review in the future (like he did with most of the games after the first e3 review).Akai Shizuku said:I loved that E3 review so friggin' much.
Hey, I like those genres too, but I see where he's coming from, and I find his points rather difficult to argue against. I love JRPGs (for the most part), for instance. But I see where he's coming from. More interactivity in the story would be a welcome change in direction for JRPGs, and the visual novel thing gets kind of boring when you're supposed to be playing a video game. Especially when you just kicked the ass of a giant demon thing and you want to use the shiny sword they just gave you to kick some freaking ass!NeutralDrow said:Akai Shizuku said:Which do you refuse to watch?NeutralDrow said:I usually find his reviews funny. It's funny. I'm a big fan of fighting games, JRPGs, visual novels, and a ton of other things he explicitly doesn't like, and yet I laughed at the Soul Calibur 4, Smash Brothers Melee, TWEWY, etc. reviews (...okay, maybe not Valkyria Chronicles, but that was just a mediocre review). I'm occasionally confused by the vitriol, but I can accept taste differences. The Wii bashing thing at the beginning of that one review just struck me as incredibly stupid.
