It doesn't bother me that much, but I brought this website up during a break in class, and the teacher caught the adds and told me to go to a different site.

Yep. Don't see a problem with that. It is great HD.DoPo said:Daystar Clarion said:If that's wrong, then I don't want to know what's right.DoPo said:So, you're saying you turned down porn ads, to be able to look at giant ass videos?eyepatchdreams said:Pubclub members Assemble! Instead of having porn ads.eyepatchdreams said:I'm not a very complicated man.DoPo said:So, you're saying you turned down porn ads, to be able to look at giant ass videos?eyepatchdreams said:Pubclub members Assemble! Indeed, it is I! Is that something special?!DoPo said:You! And you...make a very good point actually. But I don't know that, as I haven't experienced it. YEAH! Those are horrible thoughts! Who would possibly think that porn is good!? It demeans women and...pizza delivery guys...and....smearyllama said:I shall Join you, comrade!Daystar Clarion said:snip
OT: I'm guessing it's just context-based ads, not any serious effort by the Escapist to advertise porn.
Though perhaps, through some partnership with SugarDVD, Pubclub members got a special discount...
No! Bad thoughts, smearyllama, bad thoughts!
That's how content sensitive ads work. I seem on several sites I visit, just it's usually not porn that's either on the ad or the site. Some company or something managed to sneak this is in is all.Dragonclaw said:Funny...that's the ad at the bottom of this page right now. Doesn't bother me at all...much rather see some eye candy than a UPS ad, doesn't mean I'm going to click on it but I don't object to it being there.
You know daystar, I think the pubclub is actually missing out on this one, thanks to things like this:Daystar Clarion said:Advocating adblocker is against the rules.jizzytissue said:1.get ad-blocker

If the Escapist is using the standard modern ad revenue arrangement, nobody has to click on the ads for them to get paid. In the very, very early days of ad banners, it was click based, but these days almost everything is on a page view basis; basically, the more people who go to a page on The Escapist that carries a given ad, the more Themis Media (the company that owns The Escapist, for anyone who doesn't know) gets paid for putting it up on the site.ravenshrike said:I'm trying to figure out who actually clicks on porn ads besides 12 year olds looking for porn for the first time on the internets.

This, basically. I really can't get that mad. Porn is a product like any other. Hell, this could even be seen as a step forward if the ads were a little more discreet, and weren't on a gaming site. Like someone else said, porn ads on a gaming site just make us all look like premature neckbeards. In the eyes of everyone else at least.feeback06 said:Since it is game related technically, then I really don't have an issue with it. Now if it was saying something like "BARELY LEGAL TEENZ READY TO BLOW!!!11!" that would be a different story...
I'm a member of several groups, the last of which I just turned the chat notifications off for a week or so ago. It's a lot lower than it was before that; I've had up over 1000 unread messages in the past.LetalisK said:Sweet Mother of God, man. Yeah i'm not okay with this. maybe i'm wrong i should password block this site, but that going to cut way down on my time spent here.I just had a WTF moment. What's up with these sugarDVD ads? I understand that it's for a PS3 app thing so no direct link, but still. despite language i find this site to be mostly family friendly and PG-13. i leave this site open in my living room with my children sometimes. I'd rather not have these ads around.
I have no idea, but somebody must; it's not like banner ads for anything else are trustworthy either, aside from projectwonderful.com ads, which yes, are wonderful. And a good way to find new webcomics.ravenshrike said:No no, I get the revenue model, but you're still looking at the same issue.
