I have search-bar'd this, and as far as I know this hasn't been asked.

How important is your post count to you? Do you post for the sake of raising your post count? Do you only post when you feel like you need to express an opinion? Or are you a forum god like Furburt and Neonbob? Furthermore, why do you consider your post count important/unimportant?

Personally, I find it sort of important but I don't post just to raise it. However, I do see the post count as being somewhat indicative of how dedicated people are to the site. Also, the fact people have a high post-count generally means they haven't had too many encounters with mods, so I'm more likely to think they have something valuable to say/are decent people.

Edit: Obviously I'm not all that well-versed in the art of search bar-ing, sorry about that folks. I'd never seen it come up in the half a year I lurked this site, but I guess I wasn't looking all that hard. Mods, if it's too soon, close this thread up and chuck it in the bottom of the ocean. That is all.

It has been done mate, sorry to say.

Post count is really not worth much, what there actual post says however is a different story.

I only post really to say something now, not to increase my post count.

I only post when I find a thread where I can express an opinion or a thought. I agree with you that the higher the post count the more dedicated people are to the site.

It doesn't really bother me, it just shows how much you post. For all we know you could spend an hour a day in forum games, it doesn't really make you a more prominent poster. Although it does sort of show a level of socializing here, after all one of the best ways to get a high post count is in User Groups.

Oh and i'm afraid to say you are going to get a allot of people mentioning that you should use the search bar, this thread gets done regularly.

I don't want to be 'that guy' but this has been done before, many times. But it's okay because the search function is a piece of shit, you're new and at least you tried searching for it. Telling someone off for not using the search function is like telling someone off for not using a broken car with no brakes anyway.

I don't post for the sake of posting, I couldn't care less about how many posts I have but I do look at peoples info box when I read their comment. Meaning that I view their name, avatar, post count and join date. So with every post I read I look at the posts but I don't tend to use that number to judge others, it's just a level of how much time you spend in usergroups and Forum games nowadays.

I'm not bothered by post count really. I do sometimes make jokes with certain post numbers though.

I post if I have something to say... nothing more, nothing less.
And... we don't like deifying members... and some certainly don't like being deified...
post count means nothing...
Post count does not make someone a god, dammit :| All users are equal.
All have to go by the same rules, face the same punishment, etc.

Was attempting humour, guess I was being too subtle.

I sort of post to raise it, but at the same time I don't post pointless crap, so if I honestly don't see an opportunity to write a long, well though out opinion, I will leave it so as not to cause clutter for other Escapists.
My post count is important to me, but only so I can one day be considered a valued member of this microcosm of likeminded people on the internet (instead of a noob). Possibly not to the status of Neonbob or the like, but high enough.

Post counts are only numbers in my mind. They don't add weight to the words of posters, in my opinion.

I don't care about my own post-count.

Hehe I'd bet my left nut that Furburt is one of those forum gods :p

I don't really care about my forum count. But I do like posting a lot.

4th option, I post only when I have something to say, hence why I won't reach 5000 posts for about 2 years I recon.

No, post count doesn't matter to me, or to anyone I know.

I've been here for the better part of 16 months, my post count is not really all that "impossible".

I only post when I have something to say, and I just have a lot to say. Thasssit.

I think post count is kinda like gamer score, some people like to get it high to show off (or e-peen as I have been told it's called), some get it high but don't really try to, and some ignore it outright. I guess I'm one of the third category. I usually only post in topics with less than 3 pages or responses that I have something to say that already hasn't been said.

Many well known community members got well known by posting in everything. Which I guess is not a bad way to get noticed, but it seems they always get banned eventually. Perhaps there is a correlation between making your opinions known and banning. Not all are like that (Nuke is an awesome guy) but a lot of people make there fame buy just being there all the time.

I only post when I have a strong enough opinion and sometimes will not post if it has already been said, that being said I do like watching my number go up, just for fun, but I'd never post just for the post count. Also others post counts don't matter to me, just my own.

I post if i have an interest in the topic, I'd never post just to gain one more. I used to be that guy and it got boring.

I think I've done something similar to this....

Anyway, my views are still the same as they were then. The postcount is a bad thing as it makes people take other's opinions more/less seriously based on how long they've been on a site, regardless of how versed they are in whatever they are stating.

I have noticed that this happens to me a lot, i have been a member of the escapist for about three months now and a few of my friends are ragging on me for not having a post count over 300,

Really I don't care, Whoo hoo your post count is over 1500 and you've been a member for a year now, good for you, you obsessive jerk.

I don't pay much attention to it, i just don't see any reason to worry about it.

On another forum I was part of until it shut down, i had over 26000 posts. On the entire site I was ranked 23 for post count.
