Take Dragon Age II (My current preorder list... all of it >.>) and you ge dlc that you can get anyway, and a cool but ultimately useless sword and shield. Pity I rogue, eh? The dlc, Cool! I don't have to pay... but its not like no one else is ever going to get it. Sword and shield, silly and ultimately superfulous, but fun.
I haven't yet found a game where pre-ordering vs. not pre-ordering cripples you, and until I do pre-order perks are a good thing.

I like preorder incentives but I would much prefer they were also available as paid DLC. What is really annoying is when they put out a game and have different preorder incentives for every distribution channel, ie Fallout New Vegas. As a collector I wouldn't mind if they had different preorder incentives depending on where I buy it if there were another way for me to get that content.

It depends. I remember getting the ME2 armor suits and not even using them because they felt too strong (and made my Shepard look weird. I like seeing his face. :3).

I'm only cool with incentives that you can unlock through the game anyway - all these bullshit exclusive unlocks depending on where you bought a damn box are just frustrating. Afterall, what if you get the wrong one in a competitive game?

Battlefield 3 is talking about some sort of holographic projector, and if that's a unique pre-order bonus it's either going to be a ***** to not have, a silly gimmick so it doesn't unbalance stuff or a standard unlock you just get early access to. If it's either of the first two, I'll be pissed, but if it's just early access then that's cool, can dig it. Stuff like art books and things - stuff that doesn't actually impinge on the game itself is fine as well - just don't mess around with the game's actual content, dammit!

When pre-order bonuses were just some armor or weapon that I didn't really to care to use anyway, it didn't bother me so much. But exclusive extra missions like they're doing with Deus Ex: Human Revolution [http://www.deusex.com/preorder] and L.A. Noire [http://www.destructoid.com/rockstar-offers-a-variety-of-l-a-noire-pre-order-bonuses-194990.phtml] are utter bullshit.

This. No need to shaft gamers who just want to wait for reviews to make an educated decision. I prefer physical items, like the artbook for the game (thank you Hyperdimension Neptunia!). It rewards fans of the game while having no effect on the actual gameplay/narrative.

Anyone who preorders a game is allowing themselves to be ripped off.

Yeah i'll buy the game full price without reading reviews or trying it first. So long as you give me a cool jacket.

If preorders didn't exist more people would wait a day or two for a detailed review, and shit games would sell far less.
