Male who plays as a female.

It makes me feel pretty.

...

(I could give a real reason but somehow I can't think of one right now. xD)

I always play as male.

I can't really get into female characters, call me chauvinistic.

I might try it for ME2

Usually as my own gender, unless there is a sufficiently significant difference between the two, then I go with my gender first and a female on my 2nd or 3rd.

I'm a guy and play as a guy. Sometimes, rarly, I'll do a 2nd run through as a girl just to see what it's like.

If I have to stare at a polygonal ass on the screen for several hours on end it's an easy descision.

I play as one for one playthrough, the other for the second. It's usually worth playing both, to see the little differences in how people react to your presence.

I'm usually a girl for the same reason Lora Croft is. If I'm going to spend most of my time running around doing the same thing over and over I might as well be pleasant to look at.

I don't quite understand this. I'm not staring at my characters ass when I am playing. I'm paying attention to the environment and what the hell I'm supposed to do.
It's not that you're ogling the character, it's just always there. I don't play any sort of rogue male character because that class always gets some sort of spandex-based armor, and I don't want some guy's ass taking up the bottom of my screen all the time. Male fighters/tanks are fine, but playing as a tank is generally less fun anyway.

Of course, this is all for RPGs that aren't Bioware-crafted space operas. In Mass Effect, Jennifer Hale is a reason to play femshep[footnote]I hear that's what the kids are calling her nowadays.[/footnote] all by herself.

I played Mass Effect 1 with a female character and that was the only time I played seriously as the opposite sex. I tend to get too distracted by a hot chick to play properly.

Am I the only one that finds it really odd that people are just staring at hte ass of their game characters the whole way through? I mean on Mass Effect I dont think I did that once either I was soaking in the landscape or worrying about fighting people.

I always play as a male, then sometime as a female if I really like the game. Only Kotor 1 & 2 have I done this though

I usually play through a game as a female, mainly because the camera usually situates behind the character, and I'd much rather stare at a chick's ass for 10 hours than a dude's.

Oddly enough, I've asked a number of female gamers this exact question, and they usually play female characters as well for the exact same reason stated above, not for any of those niche appeal reasons like character relatability or any of that nonsense.

it depends really, i always usedc to play the archetypical hard arse male soldier/warrior class. That rung true throughout my days of playing KOTOR 1 and 2, any time i tried playing as a girl or a force/skill specialist i just couldn't get my head around the fact that i was supposed to be the hero but other people were better with their lightsabers than me.

That all changed with fallout 3, i played as a man first but only realy got into it when i played as a sneaky sniper/sneaker female character, i got realy into it whenever i was sneaking around a load of ruins or a building picking of super mutants with single shots to the head or a stab in the back.

The first mass efffect game was a lot better as Eve Sheppard than Daniel Sheppard, she was quite a lot like ashly williams in that she was a mean ***** with an assault rifle, the only difference was that she had half an ounce of character and was an interesting person.

Mass effect two on the other hand was a bit weird, after the stuff with Liara it was difficult to get angry playing as eve, so i went back to sheppard, he had been a good guy before and it was great fun to facilitate his revenge upon the galaxy that turned its back on him

I usually play as a my own gender (male) on my first play-through of a game. After that I'll make different characters with different classes. I'll make their gender whatever I feel fits the character that I'm trying to make.

I usually play a male character on my first run, chosing all the "good" options, for roll-playing, because I'm a nice person.
On my second run, I play a female char, and choose different paths, which is usually the evil one(Except Fallout 3, I did a neutral one there).

I can't get into female characters. (See what I did there?) I don't know why,But I always play as my own sex, male.

Come to think of it,I always make my brown hair and green eyes the same,too....

Am I obsessed with myself?

I'm male and I often play as a female, but depending on the game or who it's from, I may have different reasons for it.

Examples, Oblivion, Fallout, and Fable 2, I played female characters thanks to me having a pool of original characters and I wanted to see some of them "come to life" in a fantasy setting (though, apparently, there's no such thing as a fair-skinned Redguard for the former). If I'm playing a game from the mighty BioWare, then my female characters are there for me to experience the story from a different perspective in addition to them "being alive" (and in the case of Mass Effect/2, Jennifer Hale is just spectacular). Example of that, I didn't know just how much sexual innuendo there was in the game unless I was playing as a male Jedi in KotOR 2 (goddamn you, Kreia).

I'm a guy and I play as both. Usually I'll play as a girl on the first runthrough, just because I can. Then I'll play as a guy on the second runthrough. However, when it comes to MMOs then I sometimes play as a girl, more so than as a guy. Except for Myst Online, I'm currently playingthat as a guy. Really it just varies for me, most of the time thoug I just prefer playing as a girl (no real reason...).

I usually play male. However, if a female's stats are closer to what I use, then I'll play as a female. There are also games where I refuse to play as a female, and there are situations where I will refuse to play as a male.
