Depends on the game. I prefer third-person role-playing games because it allows me to identify with the character I'm playing better, but for shooters, first-person is almost always a more natural fit.

1st person is the most natural way, since it mimicks your own experience of life...

(except in real life i can ALWAYS look down and be confident that my legs are there.)

My preference is First Person, but I don't mind the view, as long as it's done well.

I prefer the first person perspective since it works the best, you look at something, you aim at it, you shoot it. It is the simplist and feels the most natural (I don't care if my character has a cute ass or what...that's what cut scenes are for, along with a feature length film by Ewe Boll).

I don't like it when games try to include multiple perspectives, Fallout 3 for example. The first person camera worked well (like it does in every FPS) but the second you switch over to the third person not only has the camera flown back a good 20 feet but you're character now occupies the space where a targeting reticle would be meaning that aiming manually in this view is largely down to luck and hoping that the target is bigger than you are (thankfully, this is normally the case).

Haha, "other"? Wtf?
That reminds me of an old Nintendo 64 game "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire".
It had a viewpoint switching button and one of them was.... unique.
The camera switches positions, viewing the character from many perspectives, much like a movie. Hard to control, but oh man, it was epic!

Back on topic..
I prefer a good first person view. Easier, looks nicer, and generally feels better.
