...However the third season...
WHAT? Third season?! When did this happen?!
Yep, there was a 5 episode long 3rd season called Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Rei. It was made last year and it's considered the OVA of the series and is almost worthless besides having two hilarious episodes that have questionable continuity.
Oh thaaaaaat. Damn you for getting my hopes up.
Apparently I don't know what OVA means but as far as I'm aware yes, those few eps are not canon. But the pool episode is great.
And I am Irie for Satoko.

Full Metal Alchemist's English Dub is good as well. And I never had a problem with Pokemon....
Never seen FMA (always wanted to try it but I never have time), and I never got into Pokemon ... well I did, just, the game, not the anime. Is it good? It seems rather child-oriented to me ...
Ehh first 2 seasons were good, just dont EVER watch anny anime from 4kids its the equivalent of shoving rattlesnakes into your ears, and bees into your eyes.
Thank you, sir. Original 150 is by far the best. second season... i guess so. after that, don't even bother

The people who are too into it. I love anime and manga, I like scifi and fantasy and other than books no other medium does it better.
However I don't telegraph it, I'm not a japanophile. If you like these things most people will stereotype you as one of those "Japan does everything better" but I'm not like that and don't want to be grouped as such. I'm a nerd sure but my taste is broader and like every medium 90% of anime and manga is utter shit.

The main problem is HOW DO I FIND ONES I WILL LIKE?
Because from picking up a dvd or watching a trailer of a film I know weather or not I'm going to enjoy the film. And it's easy to just flick through all the "thriller" or "action" or "comedy" titles right?

With anime it's really difficult to do the same sort of thing. It's like music for me, I have no idea how to find "more like this" "less like this".

I suppose my refusal to watch anything with more than 25episodes has it's limits too. I watched Monster (70-100 episodes I forget how many), and although it was very good, I decided that I would never do that again. Also I started watching anime with DBZ, watched pretty much every episode. Although I have fond memories, I cant really go back and watch episodes any-more.

Some anime are good (FlCl, Cowboy Bebop), some are bad (Naruto, DBZ).

I think the main problem with the bad anime is that they do nothing to make the characters likable to me, and then every episode is either angst, filler, or drawn out fight scenes. However, the good anime keeps me interested and some (such as Cowboy Bebop) are amongst my favourite shows.

Still, all of the idiots who worship anime and think Japan is a paradise that does no wrong are annoying.

Essentially, what I'm saying is that anime has its good and bad parts, just like all entertainment.
Dragon ball Z... bad?
Terrible, horrendous, unbearable, generally a crime against mankind; Want more? I have a list.
Could you perhaps give a list of why dbz is bad, perhaps in bullet point form.

Glad to see some other anime fans who aren't blinded by devotion and are able to point out the flaws in their hobby.

This pretty handily summarizes the text wall I wrote earlier. Just like any other form of media, there is good anime and there is bad anime. The problems and stereotypes occur when bad (or just mediocre) anime become insipidly popular and color the public's impression of anime as a whole.

Here is an interesting thought experiment. Imagine that you live in Japan and decided to watch a popular American television show to see what the fuss is all about. You decide to watch Family Guy. How would your impressions of American television be affected? What if the show was a documentary on Astrophysics on the History Channel? What if it was a trashy 80s sitcom filled with sexism and implied wife beating?

I will admit that there are plenty of people in the anime community that are incredibly obsessive and blindly devoted to their chosen hobby. These people exist in every hobby, from gaming to gun ownership and there is nothing anyone can do to prevent these people from influencing the public perception of that hobby. Level headed and mature anime fans are just as embarrassed by their actions as you would expect. Gamers are embarrassed by the cursing 12-year-olds on Modern Warefare and Christians are embarrassed by WBC. There will always be fanatical sociopaths in any hobby.

Weird stories. I hate the fanboys, but no more than trekkies, Harry Potter obsessives, or the Citizen Kane reenactment society.

The weird content annoys me like crazy, though.

I voted "The people Who are Obsessed with it Turn Me Off" but there should be a "everything" option.

Okay, let's see:
-Every moment of that accursed show that I was forced to watch caused me unimaginable physical pain and distress.

And if you want any more reason, it's my damn opinion and questioning it isn't going to make me like the show anymore.
Stop raging dude, i just wanted to find out why you didn't like it...

Like other people have said, it's rather annoying when they draw a single move in a fight out over several episodes.

efinitely check out FMA, i've only seen like 4 episodes so far, but from what friends tell me and from what i've seen, it's pretty darn good. Also, yeah pokemon is probably more for the kids, but it was such a big part of my childhood....
I did see the first like five episodes and I really wanted to get into it, but then I saw the latest episode on TV (at the time, but this was a couple years ago) and they were with these modern military guys and I had no idea what was going on so I got turned off it for a while. Concerning Pokemon, yeah, I can understand that. Good old nostalgia, ay? ^_^

It's hard for me to get drawn into anything radically different than I'm used to. I did however enjoy the Cowboy Beebop movie and Afro Samuari. I just feel the stories aren't concise enough and are usually boring.

I don't know how to pick any especially bad part of anime. Some are just plain bad, in my opinion: Gunslinger Girl (there is no real plot, characters are hollow), all those cutsey school animes are not for me either. Nothing happens in them.

I do like Cowboy Bebop and Death Note. Those are magnificent. Also Ginga: Nagareboshi gin and Ginga densetsu weed which hold a legendary status for me. I would sure like to know some more great series.
