If you legalize and license prostitution you take away many other problems associated with it.
Think for a moment, with prostitutes come pimps (commonly)and the violence of protecting one's territory and "property" from interlopers.
Secondly; most cases of prostitution involve drugs. Either the selling or abuse thereof.
Finally; if you license and regulate prostitutes you can only allow those women deemed disease free and thereby reduce the numbers of STD's contracted by those seeking some sort of sexual release.
That's my opinion; feel free to debate me on any of those topics. Or any you think up yourself.

Dude you're asking the Escapist? I can answer for 90% of them for you, they'll say yes.

This is the community that said consensual sex between a brother and sister/father and daughter/mother and son should be legal and is completely alright...

Prostitution must seem boring and overly-moral by comparison.

My take on it is that sex is something that shouldn't be for sale. It's incredibly rare that someone gets into the sex industry because they want to, and this would make it far easier to get in there if you're feeling like you're out of options. It would also open up ALOT of legal loopholes for the sex trade (as in slavery) to get a firmer foothold wherever, and get away with even more.

On top of that it would force 'Pimps' and such to lower their prices to keep up with corporate competition.

No street walking. Licenced brothels only. Must have security. Regular government checkups to ensure the girls are not being forced into it.
I'd like to add "should be open to men as a profession also", and then leave it there. Couldn't have said it better.

The poll result really pleases me. Splendid views you have Escapists.

I'd only support (in the weakest sense of support) prostitution if both men and women were made available at brothels. Of course, even then it wouldn't work. Someone who is gay isn't going to want to prostitute themselves out to women and someone who is straight isn't going to want gay sex. Then again, it is all for the money...

Yes, only because there's no reason it shouldn't be. That's my stance on any law. If you can give me any *good* reason whatsoever that something should be illegal, I'll agree with you.

It's the oldest profession in the world. Don't see why it should be illegal now.
People who want to sell it, can sell it. People who want to buy it can buy it.

My argument is generally "people can do whatever the hell they like with their own body, if they want to sell it, they can", but my problem is with STDs. Sure a hooker might tell you she doesn't have AIDS or Gonorrhea or syphilis, but she might be lying as well. I know that's what protection is for, but...

I wouldn't use their services myself, but yes, i think it should be legal. Government would get some extra money, pimps would go out of business and prisons would get a few free cells. As far as i can tell police are going after them only because they don't pay taxes, so why not legalize it and let them work in a safe environment where your employers wont kick your ass if you don't get enough clients that day.

Hahah. Oh wow.

I like how we always have these mature conversations, but I would rather think other options for these people than prostitution.

Illegal? no, its a way of living, there are guys that like to have sex and there are girls that will have sex with them for a hefty sum

i do think it should be REGULATED that with all the AIDS and other nasty diseases that can come out of there

people will always want to have sex and there will always be others that can sell them sex, but if there were a more regulated the "pimps" the abuse and the diseases will be eliminated

of course "drugs" are mixed with prostitution, but if one takes prostitution and regulates it, it would be much safer for everyone.

Do you have a sibling around your age? Can you imagine having sex with a family member, how does it make you feel?

Have you seen hes sister?

Oh well. On serious note. You asked him an opinion. You know how people have opinions and fetishes, right? yeah.

This community is sadly known for its smartnesses. You're right on that. Its pretty naive to think that prostitudes are in it for sex.

I say yes on the expectation that it would be regulated and such. And also because it's their body, they can sell it if they want to.

But I personally think it's cheating at life. Ya' know? Most people have to work hard to set up a relationship and ultimately keep a healthy sex life. So I really don't see the point in just paying a chick (or a dude, if that's your thing) to have sex with you. It's all of the reward without any of the work or human affection.

Most of these people aren't enjoying themselves anyways, I'd imagine.

In the attributed words of one of my favourite fictional characters ever.

You are always going to have crime, so it might as well be organised.
Bring prostitution within the jurisdiction of the law and watch a lot of the associated problems disappear.

(Probably Ninja'd, buuuuut...)

Yes, it should be legal. As should Marijuana. They should both be treated like Alcohol is.

If prostitution is legalised and regulated, then the government could prevent various diseases spreading and offer support to those who need it. It could also be taxed, which is a bonus for the Government.

While it isn't something I feel right doing, I believe it's completely subjective. I don't believe that it should be illegal because I personally wouldn't do something. Some people have weird fetishes. Just because I don't share them doesn't mean it should be illegal.

And does it affect you? If I married my sister, how does this harm you in any way? Talk about "victimless."
