I think it is legal in NZ just so long as you work out of a registered brothel and not on the streets, use protection and have regular health checks.
I have no problem with it aside from it making me slightly uncomfortable but me being slightly uncomfortable with something is not reason to have it banned. Not a career I would want but if someone else decides to do it power to them. It does need to be regulated to protect both the prostitutes and their customers and they shouldn?t be working out on the streets in the middle of the night.

The only reason drugs and prostitution is illegal is because we're still being run by older generations who've been taught not to accept such things. Give it a few years. As the old generation starts to die out people from the new generation will come to power. At the same time most of the people living will be part of our generation, aka the extremely liberal generation. It's only a matter of time until we're no longer held back by the older generations and their ways. Then again, it's only a matter of time until WE become the old generation and the new generation starts advocating things we don't accept. I wonder what future generations will advocate for.

Either way, prostitution will be legal. It's only a matter of time.

Rape is illegal because it violates the victim, the key is lack of CONSENT. What 2 (or more) CONSENTING adults do with each other sexually is no ones business but their own.



I think far too many people have nothing better to do than judge their neighbors morality, it's none of their business, and they should find better and more productive things to do with their time.

Well... in the UK it technically IS legal, just soliciting prostitution isnt .
In any case, if it was fully legalised, then Protitutes would be much safer, and have all kinds of benefits such as insurance ( i guess). If it is restricted to specific, lisenced places (ie, brothels), it will eliminate street walking prostitutes... legalised prostitution can be taxed by the government, which would help them...
Overall, legalising prostitution would be a good idea imo. I mean, just because it is illegal doesnt mean that people don't do it; its not called the "worlds oldest proffession" for nothing.
IT will always be here and people need to accept that.

Personally i'll stay as far away from that stuff as possible. We're a civilized country, and we don't need that kind of business.

Everywhere has that kind of buesiness it its just not legal here and thinking it should be legal duesnt mean you need to be involved in doing stuff with prostitutes. It could bring in money and help provide some prection for the people who do it as well and with good regulations it can help generate and possibly reduce std's and such due to requirments in being clean for brothols and such.

So you think that promoting the use of hookers would REDUCE STD'S? Yeah that's a good plan.

For everyone getting to be protected while doing it you have 1000 people who are now doing it who wouldn't be if it was illegal.

If it was legal, it would effect your life even if you don't use the facilities. I don't eat Mcdonalds but I drive their big sign every day. Now who wants to drive by the hooker store with their son everyday?

I have never had to ask any girl I have ever met if she has used a hooker in the past. In your world that would be a needed question. Yet you think she is more likely to be clean if she used guy whores? Come on.

You do realise that prostitution (i.e. the selling of a service - sex) can hardly be considered significantly different from the selling of any other service, right?

Or were you planning on banning masseurs, plumbers, entertainers etc. as well??

Personally, I've got no problem with it. It's not something I'd do or be involved in, personally, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal.

Prostitution is currently a large area of organised crime and human trafficking. It's also dodgy, doesn't contribute to the economy, and significant health risk. I'd far rather it was properly controlled, regulated and taxed - like any other service.

Think back to America's Prohibition... the illegality didn't stop bootleggers, and alcohol was still available. But as a legal item, it now has quality standards, decent prices and its put the bootlegging criminals out of work.

Frankly, I just don't see a down side.

i personally would not use it, but i think if it was made legal, it could provide a decent service to those who want it. i mean, in terms of supply and demand, there is demand, just it has to go through illegal channels to get there. if it were legal you could have health checks n everything, nice and official. not a bad idea if you ask me

nobody is saying you have to be one, or you should be one. the question was, should it be legal. anything can be a job if there is a demand for it, which there obviously is, or it wouldn't exist.

Well... I suppose you could grow up a bit, give up on the archaic, quasi-religious zealotry and actually explain why you have a problem with it in a rational and thought out manner. Or is that asking too much, hmm?

Well i think of it like this. Professional athletes get paid millions by fans for what. They perform a service for a set period of time to an agreed upon rules for the entertainment. What do hookers do they get paid to perform a an agreed upon service for a period of time for entertainment. Just think about it.

Yes, it should be legalized, but only if we get a job market going in this country first so people have the ability to choose another profession if they want to. As it is right now, if we legalized prostitution and set up employers in the trade, women would be forced into it anyway--and at lower income values than they're currently making. Not seeing an up side here.

I've gotta disagree. I work as an infectious disease epidemiologist with HIV/AIDS and I can tell you that anywhere between 28-40% of the people I have surveyed for a study either are/were a prostitute or had a sexual encounter with one. Many of my colleagues work with other STD's and the rate among prostitutes and their clients are sometimes two standard deviations higher than normal people. I don't see any problem with banning it outright until we cure AIDS. But then again, I don't think suicide is right either, so that's where I'm coming from. I suppose if it was heavily regulated, but that is just awkward. Who the hell would want that job?

If it was regulated, STDs would actually be less of a problem i think, given that there could be regular health checks, ect.

Huh. Funny coincidence you know, I visited a brothel only last night. The girl I saw (real hottie) talked to me a bit about the job while we were getting undressed; she doesn't see anything wrong with it personally, but she is a bit worried about her family in the States finding out because they're a bit strait-laced. She said that as long as you enjoy your job it's OK; I asked her if she enjoys her job and she said it has its ups and down (like all jobs) but its not bad.

I'm an Australian, where brothel prostitution is legal, and my stance of the issue should be pretty obvious. I don't see anything wrong with the job, I think it's quite a decent profession- it's just providing an appreciated service, comfort and pleasure, to men (or women) who otherwise wouldn't be able to get it. After all, doesn't a large proportion of the human race spend most of its life trying to get laid? I actually consider it more respectable than pornography- while prostitution is about giving pleasure to a single customer in an intimate setting, pornography is exhibitionism for the pleasure of countless anonymous customers and in that sense is far more exploitative.

Obviously, prostitution being legal is the best option- its regulated, healthy, safe, the girls aren't exploited and it's honest.
