We are all humans but to say all races are equal is incorrect, Asians on average have a preform better in academic subjects and Black people are on average more athleticly gifted. Is that racist? No, its fact. Does that mean a black man can't be smart or and asian can't be good at sports? No, but on average it doesn't work that way.

No, partly because all human races can interbreed and produce fertile offspring, which means we have to be the same species.
Also, besides skin tone their are no significant diferences* between human races, we all have two eyes, two ears and they're all roughly as effective as each other's.

More importantly, the manner in which a Human is raised is far more important on their bearing than their genes.

*Okay, so their's plenty of minor ones, but you get the idea.

So, when people say that there's only one race of humans... does that mean that being racist is impossible? Perhaps we need to update that little bit of vocabulary, hmm?

Replace "racist" with "melanin...ist"? Okay, I'm bad at coming up with new words. Somebody help me out, here.

From a biological perspective: yes. However, genetically all races are incredibly similar to each other. People got different skin and hair colours so it was easier for them to survive in areas with different temperatures but we never got enough time to truly grow apart.

Yes, races are definately different. It takes a real blind eyed, half assed prick to say that all people are equal and alike. The point is, none are superior, some are just better at certain things; white people have excelled at music and academics, while black people have also excelled at music, and athletics. Asian people have a better drive to succeed in terms of mental capacity, but their musical talent is somewhat lacking. Gross exaggerations, but it is to illustrate a point.

I didnt really touch on the finer points, but what Im really saying is that; there is a difference in the races, and only a lunatic sees us all the same. Pretty blunt, but true.

The word "race" is to humans is as the word "breed" is to dogs. We are all the same species and the mutts of this world (of which I am one) prove it. However arguing one is superior is like arguing the superiority of a German Sheppard to a St Bernard.

It's been proved that we all came from Africa originally; some people stayed and colonised Africa, and some of them crossed the Red Sea into Arabia and colonised the rest of the world. We didn't evolve in several different places, our ancestor's adapted to various climates (hence variations in skin colour and other features) and that's it.

crap, i just accidentally put the "yes, and one is superior" option. i meant that it didn't matter.
although im surprised that so many have voted that one is superior.
anyhow yes theree are different races, we have slightly different traits, but we are all equal.

i would definitely argue that either of those are better than a chihuahua, or any other hand-bag sized dog, that's a "fashion accessory". so maybe not the best example.

Our brains are the same, but our bodywork isn't. The differences are only skin deep, but they are enough to justify the classification of races. Though this breaks down when you take into account that we are all of mixed race to a certain extent.

Generally though the human species is adapted very slightly to different environments. e.g. Europeans are white simply in order to maximise vitamin D absorption during the last big ice age...

At one time, I believe people were different and split into different colors, but we're the same overall race. Over the millenia, people have mixed so many times that there's very few places that are "Pure" anymore. I look white, but I've got Irish, Japanese, and even Indian in me from my great-great-grandfather in me. Can I technically claim to be "white" if my blood's diluted as much as it is?

Of course there are 'races' but we are all part of the 'human race'. Though i personally find 'race' to be a pretty poor word, in theory we should surely use 'species' or something similar :p

You guys gotta remember, It isn't all in skin color. Imagine seeing an asian man, but with a black man's skin color. A black man but with an Irishman's skin, hair and eye collor. Its about facial structure and vocal tones too.

Yes if the term "race" is only used to specify different "groups" i.e asians, white, guys black guys but since it's only a difference in the amount of melanin in the skin and a few bodily adaptations then no, there are no actual "races".

I'm severely worried about anyone who would actually choose the third poll option...

Sorry to say dude, but that's racist.

Cultural differences and racial ones are different. If you live in a culture where academics are extremely important, you'll probably try to do better in academics. If you live in a community where music is practiced often, you'll be more likely to pick it up than someone who lives in an office doing tps reports all day and living off of the backwashed coffee left over in people's cups when they go to the bathroom.

Also, I think people need to brush up on what racism actually is :

"a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement" among other things, like the obvious hating people based on their race.

so basically, what some people are saying in here is actually racist.

I noticed that in some generic homophobia thread, almost everyone said things like "I really don't mind Gays, as long as they stay away from me" and genuinely believe that they aren't homophobic.

From a biological standpoint, no. All the humans exsisting today are genetically very similar, more so than many other species, probably because of several bottlenecks the species has gone through.

And besides, the black people are not a genetically unified group, they only have the same skin colour. Since humans originated from Africa. So there is definetly no such thing as a black race. The people who originate from Africa are a diverse group. Calling them a race is like calling people with green eyes a race.

And by the way, it's one of my pet peeves when people confuse the word race with the word species. It's true the line can be blurry, though.

Everyone keeps saying this. Not sure where the idea popped into peoples heads that race meant species, or even subspecies, or something ridiculous like that. Especially when a quick look around any online dictionary will tell you this:

race /reɪs/
?noun
1. a group of persons related by common descent or heredity.
2. a population so related.

First def right there. Group of people with a common ancestry. Nothing about species etc. Just from different places in the world.

So there are races, but they are all human, they are all equal. blah blah, whatever. Just stop saying technically there are no races.
