Rap is good.

Gansta Rappers such as Soulja Boy need to be dragged into a corner and beat mercilessly until the only semblance of life in them is spastic twitching and the dribble of blood running out of their eyes.

When individual rights have been equalized and social issues have been settled, why should black culture have to be integrated into white culture? If it is true what you're saying about black culture, then middle class/lower-middle class blacks have nothing to worry about being labeled as "race traitors" since black culture is irrelevant to their whiter and better way of life.

Why can't white culture integrate itself into black culture instead? Even more importantly, why can't all these cultures co-exist seamlessly for individuals and social groups?

Why does the better way of life in America have to be a white middle class way of life? Why is a perpetual monocultural hegemony considered a good thing in this age of globalism?
Because that's an inevitability of multiculturalism. Everything integrates - bad and good.

Edit: And to your last comment - a 'white middle class' (I don't know why you felt the need to use the word 'white' but whatever) is considered a good thing because it is a good thing. It's a better way of life then a lower class way of life by definition. Middle is better than lower. (That isn't to say the PEOPLE are better, but they maintain a higher standard of living)

Sorry Eggo,

I hate when one subset of a race tries to exile people of the same race just because they have found ways to "Better (depends on how you look at it, I know)" themselves within the society that they are in.

It would be like saying that if "Because I do not self identify as a redneck or a hick, then I am enculturated in (insert race here) and not part of white culture"......
It's not a matter of them being exiled for "bettering themselves;" it's the matter that they aren't considered part of black culture because the only way they view betterment is only by embracing and perpetuating the white upper-middle class hegemony in the West.

It seems you view it that way too.

I don't propose to say Bill Cosby is necessarily "better than" Snoop Dogg (both have made money and provided for their families on opposite sides of the spectrum) but the people who get messed over are the people in the middle class (and lower income trying to break into that middle class), being labeled as "race traitors" or "uncle Toms" for simply finding a better life in mainstream American society, and achieving that which the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement was really fought for, INTEGRATION into white society by black culture on equal terms.
You don't propose to say that a brilliant family friendly comedian who speaks out for the betterment of blacks is better than snoop dog, a FORMER CRIP and a man who glorifies and helps perpetuate a sick culture which advocates the very lifestyles that are destroying the black community? Give me a break man.

I am of the opinion that rap is one of the hardest genres to actually get right, yeah I dont like modern stuff. You can tick all the boxes of hippity hoppity music and still get it hugely wrong.

Comparing Soulja boy to Ice T is like comparing a shite sandwhich to steak tar tar I wouldnt normally eat either but I can at least understand people appreciating the taste of the steak.

I understand your argument, I will agree with it: that was the overall goal of the revisions done to the Constitution during Reconstruction....but human nature is a *****, and will turn any bright ideal on its side at the drop of a hat. People can reflect on the past for strength and direction, and can envision and work toward a better world in the future...but life has to be lived in the present, and dismissing people who are going out and making the best out of the situations they are in only further ostracizes them from their culture, their roots, the very things you are for in your passage.

it can be ok to blaze to but really I cant apreciate it becasue it takes so much less skill to make then real music
What is "real" music? Each genre of music has its own structure and creation methods, but it is up to individual artists to apply their own skill to it. Skill is not determined by genre, but the amount of effort an artist puts into his or her work. The differences in skill is between the artists, not the genre.

I was walking out of a Mexican Restraunt I enjoy, when some stupid teen that looked around 16 years old called me a taco bender. I laughed, threw a rock at his bike wheel, walked over to where he'd fallen, and dropped my taco on him.

As long as parents raise children like that, cultures can never co exist.

No, but it certainly shows your simplistic thinking on the topic if you think one can be better or worse than the other.

But that's to be expected.
You're right, it was simplistic of me to think that we could compare people based on their personal merits and contributions to/destruction of society. Silly me. I forgot that gang members were morally superior to comedians.

The issue of whether rap is making anything worse or not in the community is a little odd to me. I mean sure they glorify it but as an African American myself I've seen plenty of people of my race destroy themselves usually without rap.(most of those people are from my own family).

I think rap is a fun way to tell a story, making a rhyme is fun, and so is creating good beat. But when you have a thousand songs about how some guy has lots of money, took lots of crack, or how he fu#$% a ho, it just gets annoying.

So here it goes again:

Where's the "it's a blight upon the face of the universe" option?

Oh, so you're that other music genres don't do that? I'm not trying to defend rap or anything, but I find your ignorance...stupid.

I chose "I don't like it", but in stark contradiction of that, I quite like all rap which I acknowledge as music, however the form of rap that falls under this catagory has been dead for a long time, or at least drowned out by meaningless dribble that is the "MTV rap".
For example I like listening to RUN DMC, public enemy etc as it not only does it sound good, the lyrics *GASP* actually make sense and on some level actually MEAN something, whether it be telling a story or making a political point.
The thing I don't like about modern "rap" other than the "musician" being completely tonedeaf, is that its pretty much some rich black bussinessman complaining about racism/talking about his hoes/ trying to make himself look tough, and in almost all cases there is no actual music, rather computer generated beepings and such, or some other simplistic, unlayered sound.
