The darker tone in "Tools of Destruction" was a real turn-off for me. I loved the earlier games just BECAUSE of the light, humorous, not-serious-at-all tone, and then they went all angsty and "last of your kind" on us. Seems they also retconned the best game in the series (part 2) out of existence entirely, as nothing from it is shown on any of the screens with a load of scenes from all the other previous games. Probably because the girl in that game looks kinda, sorta, just like a variety of Lombax and her existence would throw a bigger wrench than Ratchet's into their new storyline. (and NO, she is not mentioned either. I call shenanigans - and failing that, I call bullshit. Retconning is for amateurs and Star Trek writers.)

And speaking of female sidekicks, I would say that Talwyn is the worst one in ANY reasonably recent game, not just the R&C series. Uninteresting and obnoxious personality coupled with horrible character design took the entire game down another full notch. And Emperor Tachyon - why don't they just admit he is Ripto from their Spyro series in disguise? It was all I could think of every time he appeared.
All in all, I liked part 1, LOVED 2 and 3, liked Deadlocked/Gladiator again, thought Size Matters was pretty "Meh" and was severly disappointed in Tools, even though it was pretty fun to play and had some scenes of pure comedy gold, mostly involving the robot pirates.

Insomniac's stepped in it, and now I think they're looking for a way to get out of it gracefully. Bringing in Dr. Nefarious will at least be a step in the right direction.

I loved the original Ratchet and Clank, but seriously, the story got lame in my opinion, and the lack of weapons compared to the original was more than noticeable. I only played them up to about the 3rd or 4th one, and then I couldn't handle it anymore.

If they had something like a before ratchet met clank, it would have to shake things up. Change it around a bit, add a ton of interesting weapons....etc.

I just want them to get another good female sidekick.
Tools was something different: harkening more to the platforming rather than the shooting, which was the focus of Deadlocked. It's all a balancing act. 2 and 3 were the best though so far.
And yeah, robot pirates RAWK.

There definately will be, because the way that the current one was ended proves that there certainly will be.

Ratchet and Clank 2 was a mind- bogglingly fantastic game on the Playstation 2. I demand a PC port, now. I don't understand these emulator things.

They're going to make another Ratchet and Clank regardless. If they made a story of Ratchet without clank, the entire series could devolve into what became of Jak and Daxter.
jak and dexter was awesome, i was sorry to see that one go downhill

yes, they need to make another rachet and clank
I thought the newer ones were really good, even if they were kind of "darker and edgier" then before. I thought it worked though.
It honestly didn't, mainly because part of the appeal to the original J&D was the lightheartedness of it all. Take that away, and you've got just another fantasy game with brooding anti-heroes and guns. (See also: I'm watching you, Moon...)

On topic, Ratchet & Clank is quite possibly one of my favorite series, and it's one that Insomnia hasn't managed to ruin despite it's large number of sequels. Another one would be quite welcome.

I don't want another game, simply because I'm selfish and I don't have a PS3. The ones I've played on the PS2 so far have been awesome though.

Aww, didn't noticed the last option about the badge.

Otherwise, I don't care.

I love that "i'm just commenting to get badges" was an option for the poll and was surprised to see how many people clicked it. Well at least they are honest.

I am personally a huge fan of R&C and find it to be one of the few series of games where I can put any one in and play it for hours on end. The combat is perfect for me and I love the weapons. I also go through and delete the game saves after I beat them so I can go back and neurotically beat them all over again. I wouldn't mind if they never did anything new with the series, in fact i would be afraid of them messing it up if they did.

Yeah, I can see how you'd think that. I guess the lightheartedness wasn't the thing about Jak and Daxter that appealed to me.

I'm not entirely sure how ToD isn't as light hearted as the previous games. If by 'not light hearted' you mean 'has a static plotline', then I'd give that to you. But it still has the same premise and the same humor as the last games: platform/fight/arena/minigame from planet to planet, acquiring more and more rediculous weapons as you go, culminating in an ultimate showdown with the archvillain.

The humor's still there, but if you're telling an actual story with a background, there's going to be some serious moments. Every game up until this point wasn't linked at all except for Qwark and the Plumber. The devs have already stated that the story they're working on is a trilogy, and will not have full closure until the end of the third PS3 game.

Personally I think it's about time that they looked into what happened to the Lombax race. If giving us some actual background means that we get a few moments of seriousness in the games, I'm willing to work with that.
