People just hate EA because it's seen as a 'cool' thing to do, sort of like hating Mac or PC.
At the end of the day, their job is to make sure the gaming industry is profitable and run properly, EA works just like a movie producing company. Say all the bad things you want, alot of game developers need them to actually make money.

DRM and Battlefield 2, largely.
So, DRM and Battlefield 2 has made you curse their very existence. I'm afraid you'll have to explain that a little better.

Did DRM crash your machine? Did you get ripped off by Battlefield 2? I don't get how either of these things are enough to warrant that you believe their very existence should be in question.

[quote/]what about spore, dead space and warhammer online (one of the best non-wow mmos i have ever seen)[/quote]
See I liked Battle for Middle Earth because it was the only strategy game that my internet tolerated enough to let me play with friends, but then came Warhammer Online. Lets get one thing strait, I love Warhammer. I've definently lost a few hundred dollars to gamesworkshop for what barely even counts as a standing army of orks that are constantly falling apart, but the ork guide was so delicious that even this is forgiven. Then came online, a game that I tried oh so hard to love. First I got more ram to play the thing and then when I finally updated my computer to usher in its glory the thing lags like crazy on me! As if that weren't enough it's just plain ugly. Now given this isn't EA's fault and I still like the crew down at Mythic, but it's hard not to be bitter.

I despise EA, but I have to give them credit, they released some great games in 2008. Spore, Red Alert 3, Dead Space, and Mirror's Edge stick ou in my mind. eh, they are at least better than Acivision. Er.. sorry. Activision-Blizzard

Just as a note:

EA's finally made it so you can skip the introduction logo on Red Alert 3.

This has earned them points in my book, not that I can claim to dislike EA.

they make some games suck but others arent too bad
all they really have to do is throw in a little more effort into their games and id be happy
also not rush games into release

1) DRM.
2) Shoveling the market full of well-advertised, disposable mediocrity which cuts into the air supply of those attempting to come out with good games (which obviously can't be developed in the same numbers as mediocre ones).
3) Releasing their games buggy, then not patching and supporting them properly.
4) Buying existing studios and crapping on their game properties.
5) More recently, lackluster treatment for PC releases.

EA stands for just about everything that is wrong with gaming today.
