Probably, but not for much. There are some who buy RROD models and then fix 'em up just to resell them. These people should be stopped though, as fixed models from just the average person don't tend to last very long.

Four rings = av cable is loose and/or broken.

Try buying a new cable or call microsoft tech support.

I've had it once. I sent it off, it got fixed, and I got it back. No problem.

You, however, probably had the warrenty expire, so you'll probably need a new one.

Well I was playing Batman Arkum Aslym when I got up to go eat dinner. When I returned no more then ten minutes later, the TV screen was green, so I tried turning off my 360 and turning it back on, and the circle on the face plate was flashing red. Is this the red ring of death thing? What should I do? I've had this 360 since 360 first came out so I don't want to return it if I don't HAVE to
This exact same thing happened to my friend. Exactly the same. He was playing AA, he and I went to the kitchen to finish off the pizza we had ordered, came back and the screen was all green, and... We'll, you know the rest.

So, a few weeks later, he got his new 360 and continued. When he got to the Scarecrow bit where Batman is being detained by Joker, he was scared shitless due to the trippy nature of that bit. Funny stuff.

But I've never personally suffered the RROD, and I've had my 360 for about five years now. Must be lucky.

My 360 died almost as soon as I got it back, I was in the middle of F3 too!

I've been meaning to get another one, but now my fucking PC's Graphics card has gone wonky!

No, it hasn't happened to me yet. That's probably because I got a newer model, though. :p

But I'm sorry for your... loss.

I read in an article a month or so ago that MS was happy to announce that with the new shipment of XBOXES that the RROD rate was down to 46%.

As if that were a GOOD thing

Seriously 46% of all XBOXes are broken.

wtf.

Luckily mine hasn't....yet.

Would that mean 46% of RRODing xboxs, not 46% of the lot. Example: out of 50 consoles 10% RROD and so they drop it 46%, so now only 2 of 50 RROD... (if I did that right, it's really late and I'm beat).

Why I hate my Xbox. Its a scary thing when it happens. Mine died when I was playing Bad Company. Good thing it was during a slow season of games so I was kinda bored with it all.

If you can find someone who would buy a broken xbox then yes.

If the thing's still under warranty just send it back to Microsoft and get a new one.

Lukily neither of my consoles have died since I doubt I could afford to replace them. My 360 is an "elite" though (albiet one of the first elites I think) so I think it's supposed to be a bit more heat resistant.

The thing that bugs me about this ongoing, multi-year RRoD problem and the PS-3 lasers dying and everything is that consoles of previous generations used to be a LOT more durable. I had an initial issue PS-2 and it lasted until I traded it in towards my PS-3. Before that my NES and SNES kept working even as antiques. Heck I have a Coleco Vision sitting in a closet which I've literally blown dust off of in the past and gotten to work just fine more than once. There are people I've run into who still have working Atari 2600/5200 consoles, or Vectrex (for those who have heard of it).

... to be honest with what appears to be shoddy engineering, I have trouble having much sympathy for companies complaining that they sell these things at a loss despite the huge price tag. Truthfully I'd expect a game console costing as much as either of mine to be just this side of industructable...

My first XBox got the RRoD right at the start of my summer vacation two years ago. A few weeks a go I bought Just Cause 2 and preordered Splinter Cell Conviction got home put in Just Cause 2 when my XBox started making a terrifying grinding noise and completely stopped reading discs. I was pissed to say the least.

I've not, but I laughed my arse off when it happened to my housemate, so karma dictates it'll happen to me one day. (He recently swapped to a PS3 so he's out of the woods now).

lol, when I got to that bit, right at the begining I saw the weird lines and was like CTRL+ALT+DEL! CTRL+ALT+DEL! SOMETHING'S WRONG!

When I found out that it was on purpose, I laughed. Hard.

Happened to me 2 years after I bought it. I sent it to Microsoft and got it back a week later. Was relatively simple.
