Over-Reloading has to be the reason I am killed so much. I refuse to believe that I'm a bad player.

That said, I do reload as soon as I stop shooting, No Exceptions.

Tell you the truth, in singleplayer I rarely ever reload when I'm out of a fight, especially if the weapon I'm using has VERY low ammo capacity and is awesome (like a sniper rifle), cause it gets rid of the ammo I DO have.

Kinda stupid, so I don't do it.

I reload a damn lot. I helps me so much.
For example, in L4D u reload the shotgun after every shot, therefore I don't have to go through the full reload and my gun never runs out of ammo. Also you can reload and melee at the same time so during reload nobody can get me anyway.

With Tf2 it's different. I reload quite a bit, but I don't mind running out of ammo either.

I reload as much as possible but I only really reload in retreat in multiplayer gaming.
I'd rather reload than be caught without ammo.

I compulsively reload every time I kill someone so I end up dying more because of it rather than running out of ammo. That is unless I'm on World at War and I'm using the Type 100.

Depends on the game. Some more "realistic" FPSes count your ammo in magazines/clips rather than individual bullets, and if you reload you throw away the leftover clip, thus wasting ammo. For this reason, I found myself running out of ammo by a ridiculous margin when playing GR:AW or Rainbow Six on PC - until I noticed this trait, and stopped reloading altogether unless the clip was empty / very nearly empty.

I always try to reload in any downtime that there is in fighting if I am still in a fight I will duck behind something and reload.

This is a serious problem for me. I get shot a lot while reloading, which is a big reason why I prefer guns with large magazines such as the PPSh-41 and other drum-users. I usually reload after each kill, but I like large mags so that I don't feel like I have to. Stupid 20-round Tommies...

I thought I was teh only one! Yeah I always put a few bullets into a fire fight, then just reload. I have almost never had to make a forced reload.

Well, I was raised on the Battlefield games on the PC, where instead of individual bullets being displayed, you had clips.

You would start with 3 or so clips, and reloading would cost a clip. It doesn't matter if you have 22 bullets or 2 bullets left in a clip, reloading takes out 1 clip, which causes you to think about reloading.

I tend to reload if I have less than 25% of bullets left in a clip, thanks to Battlefield (mainly Battlefield 2)
That's pretty much how it would work in a real battle...

I would actually like to see more games do something like that...much more realistic than the systems imposed by most shooters.

O.P.: Yeah, I'm a compulsive reloader, which completely screws me up in Halo SWAT mode, where a single headshot kills. I'd pop a couple of guys, and reload instantly as a third comes around the corner and pops me. Ouch.

In my opinion, it takes some serious bad luck to get caught reloading in most games. Excluding the shotgun (and light machine guns in CoD4) most guns reload in under a second. The worst is on a game like Halo, where if your gun isn't fully loaded, your fucked.

That hollow click sound of realising you're out of ammo. On TF2, playing as a heavy, its a real downer.

Not only because you're out of ammo, and can feel the little red sniper dot burning a hole through your skull. But because you can keep the gun spinning. Meaning you're left thinking you're still ready for action.

Though i do suffer from an itchy reload finger, so to speak. I tend to reload after every few shots, often with about 60% of a clip left.
This is bad for playing COD and using the heavier machine guns. Those things take half the match to reload.

I really can't be sure. I play cod 4 competitively, and running out of ammo in a scrim very rarely happens. In fact I don't think it has ever happened to me. In a public match, running out of ammo happens often, so i change guns almost every 3 kills.

I am also an OCD reloader. Even if i drop an enemy in 2 shots of my AK-47, I will still reload before he hits the ground. I don't think its ever become a problem, as I don't do it if there is a group of enemies.

Also, L4d has taught me to reload before my clip is empty, since reloading an empty clip takes almost twice as long.

Interesting topic!

It sometiems depends on the gun, but usually I reload as often as I can.

If I have a large magazine machine gun, I'll obviously hold off reloading it until it's safe to do so. But for pretty much any other gun, mainly one with clips, I generally reload as often as I can. It's lead to a lot of deaths...

I often die due to an untimely reload. It's a bad reflex I've developed from playing FPS games like Combat Arms where you can rush to someone and unload an entire clip into them before they even respond if you are fast enough.

Since I play COD5 hardcore and some ARMA 2 now, only one shot is usually needed to get rid of an enemy, so my reloading is entirely pointless when I still have 29 rounds in a clip, and since shots are 1 shots, I have no time to hide while reloading.

Generally, I try to do one kill, then reload.
I think the biggest determining factor is that these ammo clips automatically top off themselves with any leftover rounds from the last one, IE every shooter with VERY few exceptions.
Deus Ex is one of the few, I always try to conserve ammo in that game.
