Poll: Reloading OCD, is it a hazard?

It depends on the game. If the ammo count goes by the number of bullets you have, I'll reload any time I can. If it's an ammo system based around the number of magazines you have (Battlefield for example) I try to use all my ammo before reloading, if there's less than 10 rounds in the magazine, and I'm, say, going into a hostile town. Then I'll probably reload. Reloading OCD cost me my life in Operation Battlefield 2: Dragon Rising (I refuse to call it Operation Flashpoint 2 because IT'S NOT AN OPERATION FLASHPOINT GAME) because I ran out of ammunition >-<

Happens to everyone. First you get owned for going click when you expected a bang, then you develop the reload reflex, and then you get owned for being too hasty with the reload. Then you learn to bide your time with the reload and balance it.

It's my experience that you never die to "click" again after initially getting the reload reflex down. But you can't ever completely get rid of being killed while reloading. The opponent can hear the reload and storm you, or just get lucky and storm you - any number of things.

While reloading = winner.

This is something that has bothered me during my long fps addiction.

I think it started with the original counterstrike. We (the ocd reloaders) reload our guns like a reflex right after a kill. However in a game like CS where a few wellplaced shots drops a player it could be a really bad habit. I often reload a 75-50% full mag, loosing momentum in a rush. I have actually started to "force" myself to wait with reloading and focus on a rush and it has given me better "game" as a result. I cant remember a single time where I got shot cous I was out of ammo, and if I did I was probably severely outnumbered anyway.

Interested to hear your thoughts on this
\I'm the same, and online Cod4 it gets me killed regularly. Oh well.

I do it like crazy in COD, sometimes do it in Rainbow Six Vegas and very rarely do it in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Usually when I do it is when I'm walking to an objective and reload even though I only used 2 bullets. On the loading screen tips it even says to always try and have a full clip.

If there's only one guy in the area I reload after a kill. Anymore than that and I just shoot until the clip empties.

OCD reloading is def a hazard, on Counter-Strike I remapped +reload to my mouse so I would stop hitting it so often - I finally figured out why for years I was getting smoked after making my first kill in a round.

It definitely made me die very very often in Counterstrike, and I still do it in most other FPSes, I just can't stand rushing into battle with a mag that's not full.

Not only because you're out of ammo, and can feel the little red sniper dot burning a hole through your skull. But because you can keep the gun spinning. Meaning you're left thinking you're still ready for action.
It's not like us snipers care about your ammo supply, I'll shoot you either way. Although scouts are much more fun to kill, you're too easy.

It kinda depends on the game, but I'm usually shot when I run out of ammo more often than during a reload. I'm not exactly an OCD reloader, but I try to have a full clip as often as I can. Bad things happen to me when I don't.....

It's a bad habit for me. Even if I spend only a few bullets out of, say, 30-round clips, I still have an instinct to reload right after a kill. It's just a reflex. It's gotten me into trouble a couple of times.

I reload almost every time I shoot, especially if I just shot something to break it.
Unless I am playing a game like Insurgency, I am not sure why but I always wait until I have shot like five people untill I reload. That is asuming I even live long enough.

I am OCD about reloading, but I've got it down to a manageable level. I don't reload mid-firefight unless I know I've only got a few rounds left, because usually that means other people are about to reload, and I get in first, and if I survive I win me a few kills.

On a side note, I can't stand watching any of my friends play FPS games, because they never reload, usually walking into firefights with only a few rounds left in a clip. It makes me want to scream "RELOAD DOCTOR FREEMAN!"

I laughed at that, cause i actually do yell it at them...
Mostly at my brother as his character tries to reload before getting tons of bullets in his dead carcass..

OT- I only reload after kills if i feel i don't have enough bullets to safely make it through the next firefight. If i am in a corridor before i rush a position, though, then i will reload.

I used to OCD reload and sort of still do but I either get behind cover now or if there are multiple people around rush till I run out of ammo, I still get killed whilst reloading though quite a but, but more when I run out of ammo

The only reason I've died more whilst reloading is because I reload very frequently, if I didn't I'm sure I would have died more from running out of ammo.

I could reload less I suppose, but I don't like walking around with half a clip.
