I just want to know what others here think which of these two options is worse:
Repeating a thread even though the last similar one died months ago.
OR
Bringing an old thread back, even if the OP was some months ago.

Obviously I am aware that if a thread is repeated within a week of a similar one is considered bad practice, as is reviving a thread that is at least a year old. In the instances in the poll I'm talking in the time frame of yesterday to 3 months ago.

So I'm throwing it over to you.

They are equally as wrong in the time period you are discussing. Whilst a repeat thread is irritating, they often die quickly. Old threads are usually unique but out of touch with current agenda.

Way to contribute, dude. Anyway, I rather people necro, or at lest when they want your opinion they bother to check the other threads first.

He's not the only one - there's about 5 or 6 gonzo users who seem to post nothing but 5 word replies that add nothing to the discussion the vast majority of the time...

Yes, instead of posting replies such as that; they add nothing to the discussion and are essentially spam.

If that option achieves more than you staying then yes.

Bring back the old one.

It's even in the posting guidelines, repeat threads will just get you flamed.

I find thread necromancy worse.
The discussion is already over and reviving it without restating everything is pretty much impossible.
It's better to start anew. Even if the topic is the same, it might lead a different direction this time around.

Definitly Repeat thread.

The occational repeat thread isn't too bad, but it really does get out of hand when you start to see the same thread re-made twice a week. There's no need to create a new thread if there is any room what-so-ever left in the old one, and it is very hard for any thread thread to reach that point.

Edit: damn, clicked on the wrong option. You might wabt to add "Which is Worse" to the title.

Actually I wasn't; but then again you do seem to have a guilty conscience...

The live one has to eat its way out. [/pause for laughter] Oh wait, we're talking about dead threads...

I would say Necromancy seems worse, with a case exception of thread Necromancy with an updated OP.
Repeat threads are unavoidable, no matter how well the mods do at getting rid of old iterations. So, with a shrug of my shoulders I give the slant in favor of the unavoidable annoying thing. Just barely though.

Repeating threads.

Thread necro is irritating, it's like someone starting a conversation half way through the topic you've just switched too.
Threads die for a reason, there's no need for someone to find a thread two weeks old about a subject and post in it.

Memebers come and go, people who previously made the last thread may no longer be here anymore so the new thread is open to different thoughts.
I don't really see the repeat threads as irritating either.

Still on the Escapist, damned either way you swing it by some of the reactions I've seen to both subjects.

I think it comes down to the thread at the end of the day. On one hand, as you stated repeat threads are unavoidable. Say however we receive a large number of Halo hate threads - and it is obvious the OP has seen them (because they all seem to pop-up at once). Whilst a genuinely interesting article regarding in-game graphics that is still relevant is bumped up. Then the repeat thread would be the worst off the two.

*Cast resurrect on months old thread about the election* Bwahahaha!

I don't really see the problem with necro'ing old threads. If they were popular before it's probably because it was a good topic. I'd take good, old topics over repeated, ill-conceived "I know how to fix the economy!1!" or "Halo suxxorz" threads anyday.

I would have gave an opinion but would it really change your opinions or feelings?
No, but I am always interested in what other people think so I can compare their thoughts to my own.
