Poll: Risking your life

So, i was talking with my sister earlier about whether we would risk our lives to save a child who was about to be ran over by a car or our neice, who is 4 years old.
I really wasn't sure whether i would risk my life for a child or anyone i don't know, but i would most probably risk my life for my neice.

So, if someone were to be at the risk of being run over would you risk your life trying to save them?

I most certainly would. There is nothing more precious than life especially a young child's. There is hardly a greater act to be done.

Yes, I'm used to being hit by cars, I'd probably fair better against a car than a child (Easier to roll over the top) and I've put my life at risk to save others a few times.

That and I don't think I would be able to stand there looking at a child being ran over.

Maybe, I don't know. I know who I am and maybe the kid I saved, turns out to be the next tyrannic dicatator who will have a little portrait of mine in his/her house.. the rest of the world would be thinking: nice going, man.

*Edit: this might sound a bit crude. But what I mean to say is that saving a persons life and forfeit yours turns this into a better or worse world. If you want to help people, you can better do so by continue doing so while alive. But then again, that's my rational talking, don't know in the given situation.

I doubt that i would do it. Not that i don't want to save a child about to be run over, but im a massive coward and throwing myself in front of a car is not something i could make myself do.

Would I risk my life for a child? no. I actually would like a quicker return on my investment than that. A teenager or an adult, sure.

I risk my life for fun whenever I can, so risking it for someone I love wouldn't require a nanosecond of thought.

Damn, I'd jump in front of a car to save a strangers dog!

I probably wouldn't. Even if I wanted to, my reflexes would just wind me up leaping into the side of the car after the child's long gone.
I don't think I'd have the bravery to do it. If it was a close family member or friend I might act differently, but if a child's life was in my hands, their future wouldn't be bright.

I'd probably have to live with the guilt for the rest of my days, but I wouldn't be able to.

What is this Yu Yu Hakusho all of you speak of?

Yu Yu Hakusho is somewhat old anime. Think Dragon Ball Z, but fights don't tend to last longer than 2 episodes, and the people actually think how to win their fights. With strategy.

It kind of rushed its' ending, but overall it was quite good.

It's an anime that appeared on Adult Swim and Toonami on Cartoon Network in America. It was actually pretty good. I was only 10 when I saw it, so my opinion probably isn't the best though...

I think it's a risk worth taking. If I know a definite other way to save the child, I'd go for it, but if I'm not sure there's another way, I'll dive right in.

That's to say, I'm still kind of a child, but I'm old enough to risk my life.
