I laughed so much.

Typical West Ham player.

The rest of the team should be happy about the mistake as it hid how truly awful most of them were- Rooney was anonymous for most of the game. So much for the 'greatest striker in the world'. The less said about Heskey the better.
You make an excellent point. Was Rooney even out there? It certainly didn't seem like it.

I kinda feel sorry for the guy, because he won't be able to set foot on his home turf again without constant fear of beatdowns and assassinations, seeing how English soccer fans are about the most clinically insane on the whole damn planet.
We may get pissed off and as a nation dislike players who make major mistakes, especially in the later stages. Look at how Beckham was treated after getting sent off against Argentina. We don't actually kill our players however, unlike Columbia who assassinated a defender who scored an own goal back in the 90's.
Eh, I was obviously exaggerating with that bit about English fans being killers. I do, however, stand by my opinion that the vast majority of English soccer fans are stark raving lunatics.

The entire English team dropped the ball a lot harder than Green and he still has to take the brunt of the criticism because IT'S HIS FAULT WE DIDN'T WIN, so I guess I do feel sorry for him. Still, a mistake like that should never occur at this level of competition.

Wait, what? America won? How the hell did *that* happen?
Oh right, the goalie.

Well, here's hoping that he doesn't become football's version of Tommy Salo, a Swedish NHL goaltender who allowed a terrible goal against a weak Belarus team that cost both Sweden a chance for an Olympic medal and later his NHL career.

One of the main reasons I don't support England is because of stuff like this. The whole country goes up in arms behind a horrible jingoistic diatribe, saying things like "we invented the game, we're the heart and soul of it: let's beat these foreigners who are ruining the game with their diving" and claiming that this year we'll win it. Then, the moment someone makes a mistake they scream bloody murder and want to get them arrested for treason. I feel really sorry for him.

I am pleased about the result, though.

I feel sorry for him and when you can become hated by almost an entire nation over a game, things have gone too far.

He's just like that guy in the stands at a baseball game that caught a ball that wasn't actually foul yet a few years ago. People will hate him until someone else messes up, and then they'll all forget about it.

won't people realize that it was just a mistake next time he makes a good save?

And while i haven't seen the game, or follow football generally, i'd have to say, that you can't blame everything on him, the rest of the team could've scored anotehr goal as well, and they would've won.
If a snigle goal is what looses the match, it means everything depended on teh keeper, cause the rest of the team didn't play well enough to carry the match.

It's just a lot easier to blame the keeper, cause his part is mroe closely conencted with the end result, cause he is the last person who has to react before a goal.
But his lack of proper reaction is not any worse, than the atatcks lack of proaction, it's just more obvious.
