Thanks to WoW, my opinion on random drops has gone from mild nuissance to completely unbearable... well, I can't at least stand any games which are built around it. Fixed loot is by far more preferrable, and makes more sense for the setting. Why the heck should a boss drop his weapon x% of the time instead of all the time? The only reasonable explanation is that the developper wants you to kill the boss repeatedly. Since I prefer to play RPGs for their story rather than their encouragement of grinding, why the heck would I care to kill the same boss over and over again?

Perhaps I shouldn't say that I won't play a game which has random drops, but rather I'll only consider playing it if I can ignore it completely. I've developped such a strong aversion to grinding, particularly grinding that doesn't have a set end point because it's randomly determined.

I love loot, but it isn't necessary. The constant loot drops in Mass Effect 1 for example brought the game down. (Not saying BioWare had to rip it out of the game instead of improving it but whatever) Only when it's done right though, some games do loot really badly.

I like picking up random crap in rpg's, but only if its easy to sort out in the inventory, I remember it being pretty annoying in mass effect with all these items and weapon/armor/grenade upgrades it took me a while to reequip my whole squad.

I love me some loot. I find games like Borderlands competely addictive.

I like it, but it's not necessary. Why is isn't it necessary? I almost always get the best items from shops or as quest rewards. Most of the random loot in every RPG is just stuff I sell in bulk so I can buy the legendary items.
