I started playing and got hooked

Then I realised, what the hell am I doing.

basically all the game consisted of was grinding for everything you wanted.

it's ok at first, when you're doing quests.

Then it gets worse when you're a lvl 50 in everything and get to the part that has a 'grindier' feel to it.

Then it's even worse when you get PvPed and lose your gear, or you get scammed.

'Meh' at best from those options.

*Smack* We never speak about that! It never happened! They don't exist!

OT: I played RuneScape for a while. Got to level 76 before I realized it was a massive time sucker and then I left.

I played for awhile ages ago, like most people, but i tried it again last year... then realised they got rid of the wilderness and turned it off in anger and angst.

It went from meh to Bad just like that.

My friend begged me to try it out so I did..... all I could figure out how to do was fish and sell the fish and fish some more. Ended up with a lot of money and fish but to this day I still feel kinda degraded by the whole thing.

I don't like MMOs in general, it is scary to see people grind for hundreds of hours for what? Being better than other people in some online game. I can respect actual skill in single player games or FPSs but just the amazing passion these people have in grinding to no clear goal scares me!

I played it about 5 years ago. I got to level 110.

But ever since I got my Xbox 360, it died in a second.
All games die eventually.

Runescape has a huge security problem (or at least HAD when i was around)
It was only a matter of time untill your account was hacked. Mine was after lvl 40 and i never went back to it.

You can't rip off a game that came after you. More accurately, it's an Ultima Online ripoff.

Runescapes fantastic as long as you are doing stuff with friends, I made a ton of good friends while I played, also its allot more fun once you have your skill in the 90+ area as you can do all the boss kills and what not which was the best bit of the game for me. Had a overall good experience but in the end I stopped as it was taking up to much time. Did a drop party worth 165 Mil. Definitely going to give jagexs new sci-fi mmorpg a go when it comes out in a year or two.

That's impressive, to rip off a game made 3 and a half years after it was.

I played Runescape on and off whilst at university, and even though I find grind games really boring I actually really enjoyed it. I liked the interesting quests, especially the ones following a storyline, and I enjoyed the variety of fun things to do, half of which you didn't need to grind anything to do. Yeah, it was mentally hard to get high level in anything, but the point isn't to get to high level, and there's very little you can only do at high level.

The graphics are (or were, at least) pretty poor, but it's meant to be accessible to anyone, regardless of computer and internet connection specs. It's also written in Java, which doesn't help.

Edit: Damn, ninja'd while I was writing.

-sigh-

Played it for a while, but grinding isn't fun. In runescape if you're not high level, you're nothing. I frankly didn't want to waste my time with that.

I only played it once a few years ago at school, from my opinion it was incredibly boring and just painful to play. Kind of like playing any Zelda games on the CD-i *zing*...

EDIT: Picture for added horror:

I guess I'd better get going *hair flips*

it was bad but it kept me gaming for ages. i think i stopped playing it around 4 or 5 yrs ago. without it i may not be into gaming as much. so like the wii, this kinda stuff i tolerate as a gateway game.

One thing I liked about that game was that I don't remember ever doing a quest that involved killing this monster 12 times.

It used to be fun some years back when I was not yet introduced to higher gaming forms and I did not have the PC or console power to play them.

I used to play it on and off. Gets boring pretty quick though. I suppose it was okay to just pick up and play, and a nice calm lil intro for those who want to get a feel of what most MMO games are like (even if it's just to a lesser degree).

Anyway I quit it a while back tried to get back into by becoming a member for a month, got bored again and bought Guild Wars. Less grinding less people thinking they are God.

Runescape has been around much longer then WOW. It's also one of the best free MMO's and is actually quiet fun once your high leveled and a member. It's a good game untill you reach a point where it takes like 500k XP to get to the next level, then it turns into a grindfest, for most people it would be before this though.

Played it years ao but it felt more like a chore than a game.
It was always get up, mine minerals,
walk 10 mins to near city to smelt minerals,
walk 10 minutes to craft weapons,
sell weapons for money to buy a bigger weapon for yourself.
Rinse and repeat.

The only problem was that the mining caused me to level up so the weapon I got were useless by them time I got them all so I had to do it all again to get better ones. Quite addicting but in the end it was boring.
