They're both great for different reasons. I'm going through Saints Row first, but only because it's the shorter game. I'll play through it's story mode then pick back up with the Skyrim character I started before SR3 came out.

As for the poll, I'm afraid there isn't an option for me. I haven't beaten it yet so I don't know if it's better/worse then the older games. Based on what I've seen though, I'd put it at "Different than ealier SR games, but just as fun".
Out of curiosity, different how?

Think of it like this: I can sit down two hours with each game, and I'd be massively more entertained by SR3 than Skyrim. But over time Skyrim is a better game. Better mind you, not more fun.

They are both awesome, in so very different ways.

For the record, none of it is bad. Just different. I preferred the old clothing style where we could stack on layers of clothes if we wanted. It could make for more unique style and outfits and color combinations were seemingly endless. On the flip side though, with The Third's style the outfits look better and feel much more natural.

Cars have less variety now, but the upgrades allow for more invenstment in building up "your car". Mine is a Hammerhead with black paint and a green stripe. Different, but still great in it's own way.

I'm also one of those masochists who didn't mind having to do side missions to gain progress. Some of them were annoying, but the rewards came regularly and most of them were pretty fun. Of course the new game's option is fun as well. All the upgrades being gated off by a leveling system makes the game flow differently. Again, not bad. Just different.

There are several small things like that. None of it major. Some of it unexpected, some of it for the better, some of it not. It all balances out to a pretty great game that's been delivering a ton of crazy fun. So long as you remember to not take it too seriously.

My only true complaint with SR: The Third is story related and it's a spoiler. It's an early game spoiler, but still. I'd rather not put it in print. Anyone who's played through the game likely knows what I'm talking about.

To bottom line it, I have been having a lot of fun with The Third. And I had a lot of fun with SR2 as well. And both of them are great for their own reasons. :)

Saints Row: The Third is definitely awesome and better than its predecessor, in my opinion.
I can't compare it to Skyrim though, beyond them being different types of games, I don't have Skyrim, just Saints Row.

I was more excited for Saints Row though, it was the one I preordered, so make of that what you will.

First: Im going to agree with the Apples and Oranges arguement... This should be a thread for a wee bit later on ala GTAV vs SR3 (both equal IMHO)

Lets get down to it... Saints Row 3 is fun dont get me wrong but it seems SHORT and I was shocked by how I had played the game maybe 8h I was pretty much almost done...Also the fact you can not "buy" missions means they had to padout the game play via -Person- wants you to do -Escort- and then give an almost nonexsistant explaination...Once you get past the Intro -> Into Do X Y Z from the last games in the name of hurting Deckers/Morningstar/Luchadores then the game finally hits the fun point. I love the R3 control of being able to beat the hell out of people...but I miss the variety of guns...although the upgrades are nice...and its not the Shepard its the god damn GDC from the last 2 games!

Alright, thanks. Looks like I'll still be getting it then.

While I'm very much looking forward to SR3, to compare the game to Skyrim is like comparing Madden 12 to Mass Effect 2. It just doesn't work. Sure, the left stick moves your character in both games, but that doesn't mean you can even begin to compare the two.

I have neither, I'm not so sure about Skyrim being someone who was utterly lost in Fallout 3 (I still don't know where you find the guy with the drug addiction in Megaton so you can defuse the bomb) I'm afraid the same thing will happen in Skyrim and I've never played the previous Elder Scrolls games but I might get it for Christmas

SR3 I'm in the process of saving up for, I don't like what I'm hearing about the storyline as I really liked SR2's open-ended approach where you could take the rival gangs down in any order you wanted and such, but the general screwing around sounds a lot more fun.

If I'm judging it on which game did I enjoy more, I'd say SR3, but that's really all I can compare them with.
Would I rather have bought SR3 instead of Skyrim if I didn't have the money? Definitely, but they are completely different games.

Saints Row is my game of the year, I say it because it's crazy fun, simple as that. There's so much to do and it basically never ends. It's not comparable to Skyrim (as in you can't compare the two it's different)and both are fun in their own right.

GTA will have to do some pretty amazing things to win me back because 4 was just trying too hard to be realistic and not doing enough to be fun. The story was fine but when you tried to get away from that it just kept sucking you back to reality with 'friends' calling.

So, you made a misleading thread title just to grab attention. Isn't that reportable? You literally make no comparison between the two games, yet you insinuate that SR3 is better than Skyrim.

For the record, I disagree utterly. I don't see how such a juvenile, slaughter-simulator ( Not that I have issues with these games, SR1 is one of my favorite games ) could possibly stand up to the immense world that is Skyrim.

I can only comment on SR vs Skyrim in terms of "With which game i had the bigger blast". Since i've nearly 100% SR already but are only a few hours of skyrim it's still SR3, but in the end i've to compare them like this:

How does each game fare compared to its predecessor? And cleary Skyrim is an improvment to Oblivion while SR3 is stagnant if not a step back.
SR3 is way more silly than SR2 (God, i didn't know that was possible) but it somehow.. lacked. SR2 had some nice story arcs. Johnys arc was drama pure, Mr.Sunshine was one of the most badass opponents i've met in a videogame and overall there was more substance.

While in SR3 only the end part of the Decker-Missions and the end of the Luchalibre mission + the finale was somewhat immersive. More than 50% of the mission were just explanations of the minigames. Also the small detail with the telephone was a step in the wrong direction imo. I liked the little visits to the people's locations and the small 15-30sec clips where you could see the characters interact with each other.
That's why i think Kinzie was a good introduced Character while i nearly forgot sometimes that Olec/Angel where part of the crew.

I'd still recommend it: It's a friggin blast if you want to do silly shit. That hasn't changed, no it has majorly improved. The minigames are even better this time and the qoutes / jokes / internet refernces in the game are plenty.
Just don't expect a story until after 50-60% of the game. Maybe that will be fixed through DLC and the Modding community.

Ah jeah, and Skyrim is awesome so far. Get it. Like.. right now.

Go.

I really like Saints Row... it's over exagerated in every aspect, and sure people complain that there is not has much customization has SR2, but for what he has is a lot, and the diversity of missions and everything else, the game is hilarious...

Sometimes people need these kinds of games, in wich nothing is taken seriously, and you can do whatever the F*** you want. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Saints Row 3 gives people that opportunity with different kind of missions (you will still find your regular escort and yadda-yadda missions), like sky diving to claim a building or use a Steg (think that's the name) to bring big radar planes down, or destroy huge buildings.

You will find lots of anime references, loads of crude humour, epic missions, a couple dull moments that are so rare you will barely notice them, diversity (costumize gang, evolve HQ, get new hilarious or deadly weapons or awesome vehicles) and a "We don't give a dam" has well has a "Deal with it" logo all over the game.

I recommend. I loved it. Many might not like it has much....

I don't even have to play SR3 to say yes, better than Skyrim.
I'm curious as to how? They seem like two completely different ends of the spectrum and I hardly think passing glances would be enough to make a conclusion. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to decide which.

SR3 and Skyrim are both very different games. And as someone who
loves Morrowind
hates Oblivion
like SR2
dislikes the direction that GTA is heading
i'm going to say that Skyrim is a better game than SR3.
Skyrim is better optimized, has a better story (i just don't feel the same amount of whackyness in SR3 that I felt in SR2) and invokes the best feelings from Morrowind.
Then again, I feel that SR3 is more fun than GTA IV.
