Drugs are so unappealing to me, the whole sensation of having no control over yourself.
Thats unforunately an incorrect assessment. Not being a prick. Let drugs be unappealing, but to think that you have no control over yourself is false.

On a completely separate note, I think folks get much too upset over the whole controlled substance scenario. American forefathers were required by law to grow hemp, which although not psychoactive, is still a member of the cannabis family. It was considered a patriot's duty. Soon as the conservatives caught wind that people found a variation of the plant that could make people feel good (and that they couldn't make any money from it) they determinedly outlawed it and smeared it so horribly that it may never recover.

I think the biggest irony here, is that I don't smoke weed or salvia and I don't drink, or take heavier drugs, but I have. For years. And I've seen the effects of all of it first hand, and know which is worse.

The reason that those old "scientific studies" are around boasting the negative effects of this herb or plant, is primarily because taxation on a plant product that is to become mass produced is hard.
Right wingers feel that its "Bad", because it allows people to experience free thought on their own.
Hell the only reason that pot isn't legal in Canada is because we didn't want repubs up the arse, blaming Canada for ruining their youth. :p

I think there should be some sort of Alcohol-esque laws about it, like Driving Under the Influence (DUI), or use in public places other than licensed areas (Salvia Bars, anyone?). Other than that, I do not think that there is any need to ban it outright.

If cigarettes and alcohol, substances that are PROVEN to be harmful are not banned, why should something that isn't harmful become banned?

But you can't legislate that people have minders. I don't know, though, I suppose my argument could pretty easily be made against alcohol.
I'm not talking about and type of legislation that would require a nanny heh. Just saying if you do use it, keep a friend close. Preferably without a camera haha

I want to know who goes around smoking random weeds to test the effects.

Likely won't be illegal or restricted until someone decides to smoke the crap while driving.
if you have just taken salvia then its gonna be pretty hard to turn on a car cuz you will bo out of your frikkin mind lol, and as for if your ALREADY driving, the general use for salvia is to use a bong, inhale the fumes and dont breath for approx 30 seconds THEN you get the effects. If you are that determined to smoke salvia while driving, you shouldnt be pinning any results, rather commending the person for their extreme persistance :)

Having skim read the title I was about to wade in with the opinion that yes, saliva is good. Keeps your mouth wet for 1 thing.

However, further study has proved ths thread is about something I know know bugger all about, so I'll just be wandering off.

Can I please tell everyone who hasn't tried Salvia, that it is truly horrible

It tastes like the smell of burning rubber, and has absolutely no positive effects on anyone I know who's tried it
It made me feel a bit sick for about two hours, and I had trouble telling colours apart
If you want to get high legally, a much better way would be to hold your breath until spots started to appear

Salvia is disgusting

No dependency, no bad effects whatsoever! Where can I find this drug!?
Any sorta head shop/porn store thing. Be prepared to spend a lot though, it ranges from 30-85$ depending on the concentration and how much you buy. Also be forewarned, it tastes awful, and for me, it did nothing. I just felt like I was floating for a little while, it was kinda lame. One of my friend smoked it and laughed for 30 minutes solid whilst drooling on himself. Like all drugs, they are too expensive a habit to take up.

It's fine, can't kill you, but knowing people who've done it, it isn't something you go into gun-ho. One guy was freaking out, saying he was trying to "fight my way back into reality". If you want to have a surreal/meditative experience, do this over LSD, much safer, but don't try it on your own.
I guess I'm going to need some of this at the end of the final season of Lost, then.
Don't ever use it while watching television! The best place to use this is somewhere calm and quiet.
Too late! Already off to go pick up some salvia and watch a back-to-back marathon of Serial Experiments Lain followed by Lost! Wish me luck!

Good luck, but it won't be fun. More over, each trip lasts about 30 seconds, so you're going to need a whole hell of a lot of it.
Damn it.

...

I think I'm going to need a bigger pile of hallucinogens.

You're most likely right. This, however, appears to be the least of all evils, so in the hypothetical situation that's never going to become real, if a government had to legalize one drug (I know it's already legalized in some places, but bear with me), salvia might be their best bet.

It's fine, I know quite a few people who've done it, and they're fine.

I tried it, I lost all sensory input for a good five minutes. Difficult to explain, I just existed. Though I think my consciousness asked me to come back with it at one point. Tip though, sit down eh? I was standing on a paving-stone patio, and spinning. Hard to stop that's for sure. The spinning, I mean. Its not addictive, and I felt fine after an hour or so.

Here's the rundown: (by my experience)

0 mins: take your hit (you don't need a torch, a regular flame will do, just have someone else hold it for you)

0 min 30 sec: hold it in for this long

0 min 31-35 sec: bye bye! :)

3-5 mins: start to come back

10 mins: okay, you remember who you are, where you are and whats going on

15 mins: "comfortably numb"

30 mins: the volume of things seems turned down a bit

1 hour: all back to normal. Except you're probably a bit sweaty and that bag of chips is empty :)

Play it safe, have a buddy nearby and it'll be one of the most profound experiences in your life. Call it stupid, fine, but opening your mind sure is a thrill.

How can you say it isn't dangerous? Any hallucinogen is bad, its not the after effects that are dangerous, its the fact that you are hallucinating, you could be stupid and go drown in a lake or get run over by a car. Thats the real problem with it.

Having experienced salvia, i can see it posing no threat to anyone. Not only are the trips incredibly short, but they're such a headf*** aswell. Seriously. Nobody worth their weight in common sense would willingly smoke salvia as an alternative to... other, less legal methods.
