Well not too long ago, I sort of started a fad in my school. More or less around the time I took up playing guitar, many other little kids joined in, and well, now the school is full of little rockers.
God am I PROUD :p

Those stupid plastic bracelets are nostalgia now? Wasn't that like 3 years ago?
Eh, if you've graduated from high school I suppose that you could consider them to be as you'll never see them again.

I never really joined in. The only fad I joined in on was Pokemon cards, but that was just because I liked Pokemon. If I don't like something, I won't join in. Its as simple as that.
Pokemon was sweet. It was fun until I got into aggressive stance during a trading sequence and got punched. I ran to the recess aid but the guy who hit me convinced me that i deserved it. I did. It was a good learning experience. dont' get within an inch of a guy's face and yell, "you are so stupid!" It was a stupid trade though that he was trying to get me to do.

Well, i've not got into a fad since Yu-Gi-Oh in primary school.
Yugioh was actually a lot of fun too when you didn't have people dueling without any idea of hte rules. Seriously. This kid tried to pull as many cards fro his deck as he wanted and just spam me with hit point reduction cards. Fucking loser.

but yeah, i only joined in when I liked the stuff. Those rubber hands were fun the day you got 'em until they got covered in dust, hand grime, and hair.

I haven't joined in any fads since primary schools. Back then there were 3 main ones. Yu-Gi-Oh, Bey blade and Crazy bones. They were fun and harmless (although kinda exspensive). Fads nowerdays are pretty stupid and I don't give a dam about them.

My school has had all of these fads and more - however I'm not sure what are fads and what aren't really since it just seems normal to me and not some random phase.

Ripping off top-pockets and keeping them as trophies was a fun one.
Yeah, except some shirts tore before the pocket came off. That was embarrassing for some...

The only ones I remember we've had that I've participated in were: Bayblades, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Shirt pockets = gone.

We also had a school tradition (not so much a fad), where if someone had the tag on the back of their tie, you would 'tag' them, and rip it off. That's just how it went.

Also we had Unreal Tournament as a phase at our school for a while. That was great, because us gamers finally got some respect. We were kings.

Edit: Oh, and that finger circle thing was at our school as well. If you managed to break the loop without looking at it, you'd get the punch on them. Also if you did a double hand ring, you'd get 25 punches on them or something. This of course was much easier to break, and therefore much riskier. It was also easier to see in peripheral vision, so it was easier to avoid.

As everyone here knows, Pokemon was huge. Of course, I'm gonna subvert the usual complaining certain users mentioned and say I legitimately look back on it positively, and some friends of mine still play it. Yugioh was also big, which despite being a Pokemon cash-in and rather stupid (partly because of 4kids) I also remember fondly, not to mention it indirectly got me into better things and the abridged series wouldn't exist without it.

Oh, and making paper spinners was huge at my school for a bit, and so were those "s" things.

Yes, I just did that in paint.

Oh, and our English class would throw as many things into the fan as possible when the teacher wasn't in the room. One threw a pen in one time, it exploded, and landed on our teachers $400 pants just as she walked into the room. She was attractive. That tradition stopped when someone threw a chair into the fan, because the fan wouldn't work after that.

I saw a group of 17 year olds' in the mall yesterday and they were all skater types sucking on pacifiers. What the hell is up with the pacifier?

Yes, that is exactly the symbol I'm talking about. People carved that everywhere, I'm trying to figure out what it means (I think someone told me, but I forgot).

My last fad was Yu-Gi-Oh. Now, instead of joining the new ones, I spend my time wishing the old ones would come back.

You remind me of a friend who still collected Yu-gi-oh cards. I ask him why, it went out of fashion years ago.. He akways responds with "It might come back.."
I respond with "You're nearly 20 years old, Kids wont play with you!"

My grade school had a massive Marshall Mathers fad when Eminem released that "I'm Slim Shady. I'm the real shady" song. Everyone had to have blonde hair, gangsta clothing, and a sailor's mouth after that (Note: I lived in Windsor, Ontario which is farting distance from Detroit, Eminem's stomping grounds so to speak). After a couple of months I was one of very few kids who kept his original hair colour. Those days were annoying. Luckily, Pokemon cards replaced Eminem as the dominant fad a while later. I enjoyed that one.
