I tend to leave them in places where there won't be an awkward question involved.
I believe in the same philosophy despite some past incidents.

Example being nibbling on a girls breast.
She wasn't careful and came out that night in a towel post shower,
enabling her parents to see the marks all along her chest, like a red hickey road to a vicious breakup.

I have a collar, they don't chafe to be honest if you get one that fits properly.
Though I'm not into major s/m stuff, just submission ;P
It would seem to me that the collar is kind of supposed to be uncomfortable, I'm paraqphrasing one of Caesar's Legion guys here but, "I instruct my men to put the collars on tight. Just enough so that the skin folds slightly around it, so that it's uncomfortable, and they're reminded every time they swollow that it's there..."

There's more to that speech, but I don't recall it all.

I don't mind them, but if you have to get them on me through pain then no thanks. Nails digging into my back isn't my kind of thing.

They probably are, to be honest, but for me and my gf it's more a sign of ownership than for pain... she has other things for that ;P

Edit: Also to answer the poll... I do enjoy being bitten and biting back, and I don't dislike other marks as well, so long as I can hide them... I don't want to have to explain them to my family.

I'd assume both but I believe she just got out of a relationship, though she is a bit "forward" to a lot of people but doesn't have sex with them apparently.
Sounds a bit like me again.
...She must be made for you!

Yeah, when I was like, 18. I've since grown up ( I've also learnt that walking around with marks all over your neck whilst in the company of another person of the opposite sex similarly adorned is extremely shameful.)

I was with someone who would get so bruised up, he would look like he'd been beaten up severly. There were bruises EVERYWHERE. It was so hilarious that I could do this to him, without doing anything even remotely S&Mish.

The worst I've gotten have been sore lips. I love being bitten on them.

Is AIDS visible in other areas? Nah, just jokin. But seriously, why would I be WANTING to show, say, my dogs a mark? He won't have any reaction just like any other human being on earth. It's pointless. But for my girl friend, she gets turned on just by looking at them. I'll never understand what makes the female gender tick.

No real preference, I don't intend them to happen but arent too bothered with a few scratches.

Considering my "Play" style, they're almost inevitable. As far as inflicting them on me, they're not always visible and not treated with bandages. The height difference between myself and my girlfriend creates some inevitable back and neck issues. They're certainly there and warrant a dose of ibuprofen.

I don't associate pain with pleasure, regardless of the kind. I dislike all forms of physical pain.

I had a bite mark on my neck the day before a job interview. Also, my soon-to-be wife scratched my back once, and afterwards I put on a white shirt. About ten minutes later, she walked behind me down the hallway and noticed my shirt had bright red streaks from absorbing the blood from the scratches (Not for ten minutes, just the first few seconds). Of course, at the same time, I bit her on her shoulder and she developed a bruise that lasted for two and a half weeks.

They happen fairly often. Also seconding the body wash thing, though let me tell you that it's considerably worse when you work in a photo lab, have scratches on your arms on the something like two visible square inches of skin between your gloves and protective lab coat, and developing chemicals splash onto them.

Oh I wouldn't know anything about those. Nothing at all. >_> *cough*

Yes. Yes yes yes I do enjoy it. And whilst my girlfriend likes to make sure they're not too visible on her, I have no such qualms. To the greatest distress of my mother.
"Oh God Jake, that's disgusting! You really need to stop that, think what people will think."
"Mum. I couldn't give a flying fuck what people think about me." tends to be my chosen response to that. Or maybe just a simple "Your point being...?"
