First off, I ask that people try and act mature here while we discuss the oh so scary subject of sex. Back on subject though, what would you define as sex? What I mean by this, is when you have oral or any variation of normal( what I mean is actual penetration) sex, do you consider that as having sex with that person, or do you just see it as something different? A good example of what I mean here comes from the famous (infamous?) conversation in Clerks, where Dante asks his girlfriend how many guys his girlfriend has had sex with and she says 3, only for him to find out that she has sucked 36 (37 including him) dicks, but didn't consider that as having sex with them. Clip:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94wGndbOIPk&feature=related

I understand that regular sex comes with many more risks than the other forms and is thus seen as more sacred and special, and that virginity is believed to be held until one actually has it, but I must ask does that make all of the other forms not count as having sex? What brought up this conversation, was this girl I know that doesn't believe in pre-marital sex, and yet she doesn't see a problem with a blowjob, fingering, etc. I myself do believe in pre-marital sex, but I still didn't understand why having one form of sex would be seen as ok while actual penetration is seen as wrong or somehow different. So I ask again fellow Escapists, what would you define as sex?

oral does not count, anal/regular counts tho.

also, it only counts with opposite gender, if my GF told me she cheated on me w/ a girl id be like "lol, ok."

edit: i want to clarify this right now, im not anti-gay rights or anything, i actually think no one should care if someone is gay or not.

i just wouldn't really care if i was in the above situation.

I would call giving head sex.

But It still doesnt have the same intenstivy as good old fashion penitration. Giving some one head (or reciving it) doesnt count as lossing you verginity in my book.

I'd say they all count as sex though they are different degrees of sexual intimacy.

some cultures consider kissing to be sex, so any sexual act can be seen as sex, even holding hands.
people have been killed for less.

It depends on context. All of it. Fingerplay and kissing can be amazing sex in one context yet in another nothing more than a precursor to the later act. The people involved form a significant part of the context because their own view of it will affect the actions in which they partake.

And I'll bite on the notion of virginity for marriage too.

The problem I have with that is that it lifts one feature of a person's life above all others. In women, it makes the hymen more sacred then the rest of her. Much easier for men to say that they haven't had sex (and let's face it, historically there's been encouragement for them to 'get it on' before being marriage) than it is for women, though with the advent of hymen reconstruction surgery such things are shifting. The problem comes when one takes the attitude that a woman can easily break her hymen without having sex. Stretching can do it, sneezing, running, swimming.. hell, some are born with incomplete or missing hymens altogether. This causes a big problem later in life if the woman is from a background which demands that she be a virgin.

This kind of ritualising of the sexual act lends to some very interesting psychological things. In some cases it is a personal commitment for one to say that they will only engage in sex with a single other such as committed relationships out of love. Other cases can render it, and indeed promiscuity, as powerplay over the individuals involved.

By your definition homosexuality does not exist because it doesn't count if it is within the same gender. So does it count if it is with a transsexual? Not that I have ever had sex with a transsexual... OT if you can get an STD from it it is sex, yes blood transfusions are sex.

Here's what i can describe as sexual activity:
1) The action must provoke sexual excitement in one or more parties
2) The action must include contact with one or more of the following (but not limited to):
. a) Anal Area
. b) Reproductive genitalia
. c) And Various other Orifices
3) The action must be able to produce an orgasm from one or more of the parties
. a) Failure to produce an orgasm is insequencial, as it is the ability of a "normal"
. person to produce one performing said activity
. b) Premature orgasms are not accepted in this connotation

That would be my I guess "rule set" for defining sex. Hope this thread doesn't get pulled, cheers!

Almost didn't notice your message, I do admit it is a funny word as well. Worthy of probation though?

no, that's not what he said at all. What he said was he wouldn't care if his gf cheated on him with another girl, so long as she didn't get with any guys.
