Poll: Should I get a PS2?

I was recently looking at the Final Fantasy thread(s) and it occurred to me that it'd be cool to play through some of the more recent ones. This combined with an urge to play R&C made me think about buying a PS2?

I put it to you, fellow escapists. Is it worth $150 + the costs of all games and extras?
Speaking of which, what are the best games on the PS1/2? (So I have an idea of what to get if I do)

The best games for PS2 are God of War 1 and 2, all the GTA games for PS2 and a lot lot lot more I can't think of right now.
Also - hell no it's not worth it. I bought me a PS2 last year and while it's a great console with plenty of great games it's just not worth buying a PS2 when you can buy yourself a better console like the PS3 and still play the games you mentioned...

PS2 was one of the best consoles, you can get loads of amazing PS1 and PS2 games for dead cheap.

I'm gonna get flamed but what the hell: The PS2 is thousands of times more worthy than the PS3.

And to spudz47 most PS3's dont come with backwards compatibility.

Also buy the Jak and Daxter series! In my opinion they better than R&C.

If you can't afford a PS3, then you should. I play my PS2 games more than my PS3 games.

Yes, they are soooo much fun. Multiplayer with mates is teh best, especially timesplitters future perfect, downhill domination and the tony hawks games. Plus single player games that are good are the prince of persia series, GTA, Stuntman (aka the hardest game in the world) and thats all I can think of right now... off the top of my head.

Oh yeah, god of war... that too.

But yeah... summary: PS2 = best console evar.

EDIT: BUT! I'm sure you could find one cheaper than $150...

Actually, the newer versions run the backwards compatibility through software which made it cheaper, so, all except the 40gb runs PS2 games, but all can run PS1 games.

You my friend are soo right the PS2 is by far more worthy the PS3 the PS3 has too many glitches and most of the games SUCK!!!!!!

Anyways, go for Silent Hill, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders, Shadow Hearts (in my opinion better than Final Fantasy ) and of course Resident Evil 4, if you haven't played that yet on another platform :>

PS2 is the greatest console ever made. And with so many dead cheap games it's the best time to own it.

I bought a new one a few months ago and I've had so much fun with it. When you can go out and buy 5 incredible games for £10 you know you've made the right choice.

Once you've got one (you will get one, hypno toad says so) watch out for Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Beyond Good & Evil, Prince of Persia, Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, God of War, GTA, Metal Gear Solid and loads more.

Though I will say, you can get a PS2 a lot cheaper than that. I got one for £30 (roughly $60).

Yes, the Ps2 is worth $150 because of the sheer number of great games to play on it, but you should be able to get one much cheaper then that. Do you have a craigslist near your area? I got a backup ps2 with everything needed to play and a dozen games (good ones, too) for $50 on there.

Personal experience from when I was shopping for a PS3. I didn't get a chance to try the PS1 emulation on the 40gb, but everything I saw said it did. The 80gb works fine, for me, and the 160gb should have it.(again, I personally haven't tested it)
