Honestly when ever I see thread like this is makes me groan. But hey, I need advise.

I've put off buying Fallout 3 for quite some time now. For one thing, I am probably one of the 8 or 9 people in the universe that didn't like Oblivion.

There where many reasons for this. For one thing, I like a clear interesting objective in my games. While simply fucking around in a world can be fun, Oblivions world couldn't be messed around with in the same way GTAs could, so I didn't really see the appeal.

Exploring wasn't something that grabbed my interest either, since many of the dungeons and caves came down to the same basic structure.

One of the main problems I had was one I could really place until Yahtzee brought it up. Lack of emersion. Emersion is a HUGE factor in my games, and a lot of it sadly is graphics oriantated. Not the textures and so on you understand, namely animation. If a character doesn't move properly or in a smooth maner, it can really put me way off a game. The look of the people really threw me off.

I enjoyed parts of it (the assassins missions kept me going for awhile) but mostly I was both over and under welmed; so much to do but very little interest in doing it.

Now I'm thinking about getting Oblivions mutated bastard kid (?) Fallout 3. I've seen a lot of it and it seems to have many of the same problems I had with Elder Scrolls 4. However, emersion may not be such a factor as the Fallout universe is more interesting and original, plus the combat looks a hell of a lot better than Oblivions. So anyway, do you think this game would keep me going for awhile, or is it too much like Oblivion?

Well it immersed the hell out of me. And the dungeons aren't the copy & paste they tend to be in Oblivion. Also, you can choose how clearcut your objectives are by roleplaying the character to a certain extent.

Honestly, I just recommend it down to that ground. You'll like it.

Go for it!

I played Oblivion to DEATH before I even knew the Fallout universe existed.

With all of the advantages Oblivion has (BIG map, spells, mixed armor, trees) Fallout 3 makes up for them (Accurate-ish DC, childrens, better voices, and learning respect for living trees).

To me it was just Oblivion with guns. Of course, I only played it for 6 hours or so. I dont own it. So maybe I didnt get enough of the experience.

I didn't like Oblivion much, but I still really like Fallout, in fact I started replaying it yesterday. There is admittedly a lot of bugs in it, which don't really bother me as I have never experienced any of the really bad ones, but I've heard about them. Still, its a good game, and its fun to drop in on.

I could imagine somebody hating Oblivion and liking Fallout 3.

Get it. I was in the exact same position as you. Even with the animations thing! and while that is still not the selling point of Fallout 3, the overall game is just a far more interesting and immersive experience. You'll love it.

I didn't like Oblivion, so disliked Fallout the first time I tried playing it, since it is basically gunblivion reskinned. Gave it another go after 4 months due to all the love (and extreme hate) I was seeing for it, and got utterly, detrimentally addicted. YEah the voice acting is terrible in the extreme mostly, Behtesda needs to hire someone that can write dialogue rather than than the computer they have on the job atm which must ponder "what is this huMan emotion called love", despite all that however it's very, very good. If a little too easy beyond a certain point. Just don't expect original Fallout style RPGing, humour, or writing quality.

I perfered oblivion but fallout isn't bad. I liked the more varied towns in fallout but the environments got a bit boring for me.
I would get it...its not that expensive anyway

Oblivion didn't keep me hooked like Fallout 3 did. Combat is miles better, thats one thing I hated about Oblivion. Plus immersion got me alot more in Fallout 3.

Its an excellent game.

The combat is funner (with more enemies shooting from a distance, the dialogue is more interesting, and there's more to do on the surface. Dungeon-roaming isn't an exact 'must' for this game.

The coolest moment from the game I remember was when I stumbled upon a merc base (Talon's?) and got into several firefights with my rocket launcher and sniper rifle. There was dead robots, dogs, and mercs everywhere. Not something you'd find in Oblivion.

It is much better than Oblivion, with Slightly improved NPC animations, however, the Player character's animations are very lackluster and stiff, but the world is nicely varied in fallout 3, with the subway tunnels being the only areas that begin to feel samey. However, the game does offer an interesting variety of quests and missions, and quite a few interesting characters. To sum it up: there is less to do than oblivion, but everything there is more interesting.

Hell Yeah, Ive beaten almost every quest and bought the Broken Steel DLC and loved it, Ill probably get the new one too. The only problems were that conversations fel face first in the uncanny valley and you will see more metro tunnels then a manhatten hobo.

If you liked Fallout 1 & 2 but didn't like how funny, original, immersive, and fun it was, then Gunblivion "Futare Edishon" is the game for you.

..I just REALLY liked the first two, so my fanboy opinion is very biased against Fallout: Oblivion.

Its good I would reccomend it, dosent have that lack of variety oblivion had (barring the metro tunnels.. okay they have different paths and stuff but god there are so many of them and they go on forever :/)The voice acting is immensley better and the DLC is pretty good too add a solid 12+ hours to the game easy. Combat is well okay like an average fps or pretty bad third person action game.

But for the love of god get it for the PC Betheseda games have immence mod support (and no they are not all porn mods -_-) Fallout 3 has very few of those actually, and it has this http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6005 < awsome & fits in with the falout universe.
