i too hated oblivion, around lvl 12 or so i had 90% what ever they called the invisibility thing, and from then on killing enemies , even the greatest and most vicious of them was downed whit out a scratch by sitting in a corner trowing rocks at it.

while fallout quickly got the same problem i dint matter at all, in fallout its fun to explore and its really immerse, i found my self searching the wasteland to find a safe place for a little kid to stay whom i had just saved, and i had helped his uncle and bla bla bla. and who knows, if your not a pussy like me and dare taking the difficulty bar up above medium you may not experience the boredom of combat.

the landscape may not change that much...or at all, theres like one small place in the entire game that isn't a gray waste, but all the places you go are interesting and have a story, in oblivion i just clicked past the story as it dindt interest me at all and at some points made my eyes and ears bleed, but in fallout i used hours searching rooms in hope of finding just one more bit of the story.

also steam is having a deal this weekend all the more reason to buy it.

EDIT: oh heres a hint, avoid subways every chance you get, they are fallouts greatest flaw, and when you have to go down there just hurry out and explore some buildings instead.

It was quite different from Oblivion for me, but I still think you won't enjoy it much if you hate exploring.

It's a must buy in my opinion.

If you base what you buy on Yahtzee's comments you're gonna have a very small game collection.

It's a good game completely different combat but similar leveling to Oblivion much more exploring though. Personally the stories are both good(except Oblivions being very unoriginal and funny in a way).

No. It's Oblivion's shittiness all over again in a post-apocalyptic etc etc etc with very horrible FPS elements.

Stay away. Go buy Battlefield 2 if you want real FPS action.

Honestly when ever I see thread like this is makes me groan. But hey, I need advise.

I've put off buying Fallout 3 for quite some time now. For one thing, I am probably one of the 8 or 9 people in the universe that didn't like Oblivion.

There where many reasons for this. For one thing, I like a clear interesting objective in my games. While simply fucking around in a world can be fun, Oblivions world couldn't be messed around with in the same way GTAs could, so I didn't really see the appeal.

Exploring wasn't something that grabbed my interest either, since many of the dungeons and caves came down to the same basic structure.

One of the main problems I had was one I could really place until Yahtzee brought it up. Lack of emersion. Emersion is a HUGE factor in my games, and a lot of it sadly is graphics oriantated. Not the textures and so on you understand, namely animation. If a character doesn't move properly or in a smooth maner, it can really put me way off a game. The look of the people really threw me off.

I enjoyed parts of it (the assassins missions kept me going for awhile) but mostly I was both over and under welmed; so much to do but very little interest in doing it.

Now I'm thinking about getting Oblivions mutated bastard kid (?) Fallout 3. I've seen a lot of it and it seems to have many of the same problems I had with Elder Scrolls 4. However, emersion may not be such a factor as the Fallout universe is more interesting and original, plus the combat looks a hell of a lot better than Oblivions. So anyway, do you think this game would keep me going for awhile, or is it too much like Oblivion?
I didn't like Oblivion either, except for the Assassin-missions and the fact that you could jump really high, but I loved Fallout 3!

Get it... Seriously.

--Xvito, keeping it excellent.

If you hate good voice acting, if you hate well developed characters, if you hate quality writing, if you hate good A.I., if you want a game with a terrible main storyline, if you want a game with a terrible ending, if you hate quality animation, if you hate rpg's with choices and consequences, if you love when a game developer holds your hand the whole way through a game, and if you love shooting and blowing shit up then this is the game for you!

I haven't ever played Oblivion, but I have played the shit out of Fallout 3. Like 600hours, I could have committed a crime and finished the community service in that time. ugh

Answer these questions as quick as you can, without thinking, either yes or no...

1.Do you like the idea of traversing the burnt out shattered 200 year old ruins of a city?
(Or is the setting not that important to you?)

2.Are you creative? Why am I asking that? Cause I find creative people have more fun with it.

3.From what you have seen do you honestly think you would like it?

Whatever you said more (yes or no) is my answer to your question.
