So, I figured it's high times I get myself a next gen console.
To give you guys a quick idea, I play mostly fighting games and brawlers. They tend to be easier to pick up and put down without having to put in hours upon hours to get somehwere. (Consequentially, I've logged a lot of hours on my copy of Tekken and Samurai Warriors 2) Sometimes, I'll jump into an RPG or two but usually I don't touch games that require 60+ hours for a single play through. (Time is a very precious commodity for me) I'm not much for shooters and I don't touch sports games. I also play a lot of older SNES era games.
I'm also excited about the possibility of going online to play with/against my friends, though I'm not exactly going to be able to take advantage of that opportunity for some time. (I live in a developing country with subpar network infrastructure so this will have to wait till I move back to the US sometime late next year)
In terms of budget, while I don't have a hard limit, I do have to be cautious on how I spend my money. After all, I got a family to feed, so no spending 2000 USD on gaming.
I've set up a three game rule for myself. That is, for a console to be buy worthy, I need to find at least 3 games on it that I can see myself logging a total of 100 hours each. (and not because the games itself just take a long time, I mean games that I can pick up one hour here, one hour there, and eventually rack up a lot of time on it because it's fun)
My list of games that I project I might be able do so are
Super Street Fighter 4
Tekken 6
VF5
Soul Calibur 4
you'll notice they are all fighters. Again, limited exposure to next gen games and such. I might be able to get into Dragon Age and the likes though.
I've considered taking the Wii as well, since that way I can probably persuade the wife to give gaming a try. But then I miss out on the games that I truly want to play. So, while it's a possibility, I'm not exactly holding my breath for it.
