As for the other bit... whether I'd like it or not is irrelevant, it'll happen anyway. The point is simply that if nature dictates that any species - including us - becomes extinct, that's just the way it is. It's extremely arrogant for us to think that it's our place to interfere with nature. The world was going on quite happily for a few billion years before humans evolved and developed the means and consciousness to interfere and it'll continue to do so for billions of years after we've all died out.
