Single player for me. I actaully much prefer the single player to the multiplayer in MW2. I thought the campaign was fun.

I'll play the single player first because I can be done with it faster and it's less replayable usually. Then if the multiplayer is good enough and time-consuming I'll play that from then on until a better game takes its place.

i always go for single player, and don't really play multiplayer, except for MAG, and i was surprised at how awesome uncharted 2 was multiplayer, the best game i have ever played, single and multiplayer. everyone must play this game

Single player, much more important to me, unless it's MW or something (although I gave up playing that online)

Yes Uncharted 2 was really great it wouldn't have made a difference if it didn't have multiplayer.

I rarely play multiplayer. I'm with Yahtzee when he says that a game needs to be able to stand on its own in single player to be good.

I prefer single player for much the same reasons as Yahtzee... randomly getting on a team with a bunch of immature douchewads is no fun, ever. A game like Demon's Souls with single and multiplayer overlapping tho, is very fun.

I remember checking service records in Halo 3 and yelling at people who hadn't completed the campaign... I mean seriously.

Singleplayer, naturally. I mean not only do you get experience valuable later when exploring multiplayer but it is a less hostile environment for new players, especially if it is a FPS game.

Story > multiplayer, in my opinion. I always play through the whole campaign before even touching the multiplayer.

I agree with Yahtzee in that a game should be able to stand on Single Player alone. I love a good story; it's why I continue to read books despite them being dreadfully outdated by television. In some cases I don't play the MP portion of a game at all. This is the case with most CoD games. (Exception being the first Call of Duty and it's expansion United Offensive, which was pure awesome.)

I play through the single player on the hardest possible difficulty to hone my skills and then take it online and find out that even the hardest difficulty is absolutely nothing to real people. That happens to be the only reason I really like playing multiplayer, it offers a challenge beyond that of any AI.

That being said, I also love the stories, everything in the single player doesn't just lead up to being great at multiplayer, but it does help.
