Just wondering whether people prefer to skip dialogue in games. I know a lot of people who do but i don't usually unless i'm not really into the game. Leave lots of comments and opinions!!

Update: added new option for replay skipping

I liked Mass Effect's system: when I finished reading the subtitle, I cut off the vocals. It's nice to have the plot move at my pace.

I generally play story based RPG's and such so cut scenes are important so I generally do not.

Besides, sometimes they are funny ( e.g. Bad Company)

I like some cutscenes. Some do really drag on though, and those tend to be unskippable. The option to pause them would also be good for a lot of games.

Dialogue can get boring quickly. I find myself skipping over that quickly unless it's entertaining.

Thats kinda like me, i'll only really skip cutscenes/dilogue when it gets overdone and boring i.e oblivion but not when relevant. i do like it when they have dialogue when you are playing instead of stopping though.

Personally, I think it should be a law that all game cutscenes should be pausable and skippable. I don't like opeining sequences the second or third time around. I started over in Bioshock again today and had to go through the plane crashing thing again. Not so bad, but it's not really a part of the game. Awesome the first time, annoying the third.

EDIT: This is the off-topic section and this is clearly a games thread.

It depends on the game. I skip House Of The Dead 4 cutscenes because they're getting in the way of my slaughter, but other times I watch.

I never skip. I think skipping should be a crime. I think story is a huge part of video games. I also like to know what the hell is going on. The only time I skip is if I've already beaten the game.

I like cut-scenes once. I don't need to see them 5000 times, so they need to be skipable.

I have played Ace Combat 3 through Zero and I loved all the games with out listening to the long dialouge scenes. Then one day I was really bored so I decided to go through them all but listen to the dialouge scenes and it made the game a lot more enjoyable then the already extremely awesome dialouge skipping version that I played.

When I'm bored of being delayed again and again and again, I start smacking space bar, escape, enter, left control, mouse buttons... while going "Blaaaaa blaaa blaaaaa blaaaa blaaaaaa!!"

..

Yep.

I'll watch them the first time , but skip them the second unless they are one of those evil games that make you sit through the same cutscenes without skipping it if you either die or doing a second play-through.

i agree with ronwue and nibbles. I hate watching cutscenes for the billionth time especially : unskippable, really long cutscenes before immensely difficult section/boss fight. This should be a crime punishable only by death

EDIT: posted before i saw darkstone's comment

If its my first time playing through the game no because I like to see the progression of the storyline but if its my second or third yea I like to skip past them and get on to the game play.
