I have a question about Skyrim. I have been on the fence about buying it since it came out and I am wondering how does it play? Does it feel like the same kind of game as Oblivion? You don't have to tell me it is amazing, trust me I hear that from everyone.

It does indeed play like Oblivion, however the asthetics are very different. I'd say if you enjoyed Oblivion you'll probably enjoy Skyrim.

It's like Oblivion but feels like a proper tight game in comparison. Oblivion was the unimmersive RPG you could dick around in and kill everyone because you just didn't care after a while, whereas Skyrim is immersive, involving and you really feel like you're progressing as you level.

I wanna know too. I played Oblivion, and I hated it. I loved Fallout 3 though, and Skyrim looks like it has gone more towards Fallout 3 than Oblivion.

Honestly IMO its like an updated version of Oblivion. It just feels better. If you liked Oblivion you should get it, if you're still uncertain I suppose you could wait till christmas and steam will probably have it on sale for the PC.

Skyrim has went more towards Morrowind than Oblivion.

Stupid things like bandits in daedra armor are gone from skyrim. I didn't like Oblivion at all but I enjoy Skyrim thanks to that.

It's the same sort of game as oblivion, but pretty much everything else is different about it. It has a much stronger main narrative, a lot more content with less "go and fetch this" missions. It certainly doesn't look or feel like oblivion, because it is built on a different engine with combat mechanics completely redone. The combat feels a lot more physical then oblivion, and magic is way more fun.

Also, it is amazing. As in, best game ever made amazing.

Edit: Just buy it. You won't be disappointed.

I pretty much feel the same as you. Except I never wanted to play Oblivion, but when I did I would play it for hours on end. I enjoyed it in a way, but I had to force myself to play it. Never ever had that problem with a game.

It took all the criticism of oblivion and fixed like 60% of them and added like 25% newer content then threw in dragons cause there cool. They also took what made fallout good and added some of it to help even out the creases. its one of the few games that i got excited that my save file was deleted so then i could try a different character build. there are some glitches and somethings they kept from oblivion that should have been left behind but all in all its a vast improvement from oblivion while still staying true to Elder scrolls series.

It has the basics of oblivion but the magic system feels a lot smoother, and the smithing is a nice touch.

Basically what everyone else already said. And even if you don't like Oblivion, most of the things that would cause that are probably fixed in Skyrim.

It's feels like Oblivion and Morrowind were just test runs and they have gotten the gameplay 100% right this time.

They have listened to criticisms and modders.

Well, graphically it looks similar to Oblivion but with better textures on the characters and now you can talk to people from a more realistic standing distance. Also the battles feel more, 'fresh' , like when you take someone down sometimes it shows a custom animation reminiscent of V.A.T.S. if you liked Fallout 3 at all. The storytelling and music seem improved too. Lastly the leveling has been simplified. This game just encourages you to play and have fun and not worry about needing a complex spread sheet for making your character.

Overall it's way more fun than Oblivion but in subtle ways.

I'm enjoying Skyrim way more than I enjoyed Oblivion. I like how you don't have to pick your skills before you play, and how they don't have the major/minor skill bull anymore. It fits my play style better. I like ti switch up how I do things every once in a while so things don't get too monotonous.

They still level with you, though. Which is retarded.
It's better than getting horribly bored because everything is as easy as it was at level 1...

Oblivion was an extreme where everything leveled with you and it felt like the game was holding your hand all the time. Morrowind was another extreme where nothing leveled and it was extremely easy to screw yourself entirely over. Skyrim on the other hand is somewhere right in the middle. It feels like it holds your hand sometimes but usually only when neccesary (As in making the main quest playable for everyone.) and sometimes you my get in a fight that is way over your head when your just running around but thats half the fun.

Yeah, I would say it is more like Fallout New Vegas (because of the factions) with a hint of Oblivion. Finishers are very "Fallout-ey" and fun. Has slightly better NPC interaction.

It does have a more Fallout 3 feel to it.
I loved Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3.
And I love Skyrim.
I feel like it takes the great story of Morrowind, the more low fantasy setting of Oblivion (although the world is much less generic and is stunningly beautiful), and takes the grittiness of Fallout 3 and combines them all into one super game.

you can have flamethrower hands thanks to an altered magic system. need I say more?
ok, maybe I do
you basicaly have continuous, weaker spells or spells that fire a ball of lightning or something like that that causes a lot of damage and has a fairly large explosion.

also, the bandits and wildlife are much more threatening in this than in oblivion and actually look like they would IRL (e.g. no more wolves that look like dogs, they look like great big bastards)
also, you have creatures like draugr which pose a very minor problem, until you start to come across the restless and Wights, they can really become a problem.
skeletons, however, are weak as hell. one shot from a longbow with an iron arrow = them dead.

That's not how it works.

Morrowind didn't have level scaling, everything (most anyway) was preset to certain level. There were dungeons where you had no business being until level 30. And this system was best out of these three games.

Oblivion is worst by far, Skyrim is bit better.
