What do you see as balance issues in the human areas? I saw no real difference between the human lands and other lands in terms of experience gain. It was one of three starting areas I did a clean sweep of (along with Sylvari and Asura), and I got to about level 15-17 each time.
There's a couple of bottlenecks in particular. I can't remember the names of the areas, but after the first hold you get to you end up repeating this one escort quest a number of times. The next lowest event is where the champion troll sometimes spawns (there's a bandit quest as well), and that's usually a fair bit higher level by the time you can get there. I've always ended up farming random Drakes in the river for 1-2 levels as there's nothing else to do. A bit later on there's the one town where you have to clear up the graffiti, and south of that is an event chain with centaurs taking various places; each time I've gone through that bit I've had to repeat that chain a few times before going further. Like I said, last time I went through the lot and ended up as level 12 in the swamp (I'd done most of the story quests too). Next after that would be Kessex Hills which is 15+. Just my experience, but in the Asura start zone there always seemed to be something level appropriate.

I'm gonna be a thief, dress like a pirate and use a sword/pistol.

I DON'T CARE IF IT'S IMPRACTICAL I'LL DO IT ANYWAY

Maybe I'll switch to sword/dagger when the target closes to melee.

Norn Ranger!
Already have a guild sorted out with my boyfriend and his brothers. We're all rolling on Fissure of Woe EU.

As for alts I'm thinking Slyvari Mesmer and Charr Warrior and see where I go from there (don't exactly like how the Charr run like hamsters when they are not in battle).

I think I will be going as a thief, sounds like my kind of thing, my second choice is ranger. I'll have to see when it launches which one I'll pick.

I hope it goes well for you. I'm having an operation too, Aug 27th. I pre-purchased so I'll get to play for a couple of days at least. Downside is my recovery in the hospital will be about a week long. Upside is I'm not working for about four weeks after.

Well, I should probably be clear that a mix of activities appears to be required in order to level without ever having to repeat a dynamic event or sidebar into another starting area.

1. You need to do the entire dynamic event chain, and not just one phase of it. This was my first error during BWE 1 and 2. It often feels "over" when in fact it's just on one of say, 4 stages.

2. You need to craft and gather. Crafting alone is worth 25% of your entire experience from 1-80, assuming you take 2 crafting skills. That's a big shortfall if you don't craft.

3. You need to be tagging all the points and vistas. Doing the home city helps as well. I did 3 homes cities on one character and nothing else, and got to level 8.

4. You need to do your personal story as it comes up.

Those four things should take anyone through without having to kill drakes for 2 levels, or do the same escort quest 10 times in a row, or anything like that. Throw in WvWvW and XP spikes dramatically, but that's a horse of a different color. After BWE1 and BWE2 I felt that XP was too slow and that I needed to repeat things in order to progress through an area. After BWE3 I almost feel like it's a little on the fast side. I do anticipate that your sentiments are going to get shared at release though, and that "There is no content/this is grindy/not enough XP" will be one of the three top forum gripes in the first few weeks post release.

Charr Guardian
Human Mesmer
Asura Elementalist
Norn Ranger
Sylvari Necromancer

...in approximately that order. Asuran animations are really good, and the race has a great feel to them, so the elementalist may get bumped up before the mesmer. And I'm still on the fence about the Necro - I was going to make a minion-focused build but I realized that I'll have phantasms from the mesmer and I don't know if I want to play two classes that revolve so heavily around pets. Not to mention the ranger, although the pet can be mostly ignored on the ranger if you wish. So I might make my sylvari into a thief instead, as I like the mobility-focused gameplay. But we'll see. The first three are definitely going to be made, though.

Ha, that gif is great. I want season 2.
But yeah, I hope you'll all be all right, we need more Escapists!

Im still not sure if I am going to get this or not financially speaking it probably not worth it as odds are I wont be able to play it much (yes I know there are no subscriptions) but one of my friends is looking at it so if he gets it I may end up doing so as well.

I was going to go with either a human necromancer or human mesmer (probably necro now as it seems everyone will be a mesmer) or maybe a human elementalist. Usually I despise playing humans in fantasy games but I dislike the other races more in this game so human it is probably human necromancer as they looked cool in Guild Wars and were fun to play hopefully they will be the same here.

I was originally planning to main a necromancer, but when I tried one in the beta it was kind of... shit. Warrior had to be my favorite of the classes I played, which really surprised me.

I gravitated towards the thief originally, but trying the warrior out has really changed my mind. My only problem with them is their hideous pvp armor. It really bugs me.

Only thing I didn't really get into with the Human character that time was the crafting (though I did on the Auran character; maybe that was the difference). I did go round getting all the points of interest and stuff (I was at full map completion at level 12).

I'm just looking up some of the place names so I can explain this a bit better... The main content gap is in Altar Brook Vale, which is the bit between Shaemoor Garrison (the place where the intro sequence ends) and the Lumbermill (where all the wasps are and the champion wasp queen can spawn). I find myself finishing the garrison at level 5 and wanting to be level 8 to go on to the lumbermill. There's a bunch of DEs that all spawn on this one farm (at least three: bandits, harpies and the troll, there might be more), but they all seem slightly too high level for where they're at. There's two renown quests you can get (one is the militia training, which is listed as a level 8 quest for some reason), but they don't get you far by themselves. I feel like there should be a few more events around the area, or that the ones at the farm should be a couple of levels lower.

Asura Warrior + Sylvari Thief to start with. But since I have an entire week off, I'm sure I'll be spreading out aplenty.
Or maybe I'll spend all my time with cooking discovery ...

I'm going to play warrior together with a friend from WoW who I've known for a couple of years now.

He is more into PvP than I am,hence he is very hyped/giddy for this game because it is way more skill based than hotkey WoW is.

It's a slight "bummer" in my case that the preorder people start to play in advance 3 days right when Dark Souls on PC hits, but I think I will be able to manage playing both.

I'll pick Sylvari as my race because I love the way they look, and I'll be a warrior so I can chop stuff up.

I want to be a mesmer. Messing with minds, making clones of myself, it all sounds pretty boss.

Not sure what race. Maybe an Asura. They're cute.
