What's with all this "cover it in sauce" crap?!?!
To prepare a steak: Salt, tiny bit of pepper. Cook. Anything else is just going to take away from the flavour.

(Please excuse my rage,my mother's side of the family have a lot of French blood in them, so I have inherited the food snobbery, bloody French.)

Medium Well was my go to. I've been drifting to Medium lately. Well lately maybe the wrong word 'cause I've not had a steak in awhile(Too expensive for my blood these days).

Medium is usually what I get. It depends on where I am and knowing how well they can cook a steak and then I might get medium rare.

I was brought up being told the best way to eat meat is medium rare... then I tried raw meat. Now I will only accept a maximum cookedness of rare.

Why does having something 'cooked properly' be called 'well done'? I don't get it.

Cooking is pretty much the art of making food taste good correct? (and not kill people) steak is one of the few meats which its totally capable of being cooked for a few seconds and eaten(even enjoyed depending on your taste).

The names just reflect their status. Well done is that its been "done" for the longest time. Only overcooks more, and i would punch someone if they asked me to cook that.

The reason I (and many others) disagree with it being cooked well done is because the whole expense of the steak is wasted since your cooking it to the point where its comparable to a beef burger, which is a waste of a good cut (at least in a few eyes). Stick to burgers

Hah, it was more of a rhetorical question on my part. In my home, meat is always 'cooked' or 'well done' (ie well done to me is it being cooked 'properly'). I just find the idea of eating something that isn't fully cooked rather ballsy in terms of safety (lol) and slightly interesting in terms of taste.

Regardless, I definitely enjoy the taste of well cooked roast dinners

Although I wouldn't mind trying a steak like my dad prefers "Pull it's horns, wipe it's ass and I'll have it as it is".

I don't know if it's a valid comment, but one thing I remember hearing on The Phantom Gourmet is that you shouldn't bother getting some kind of premium cut or specialty meet if you're going to have it medium - well done. That may be an advantage for me, because I like mine medium-well or well-done, thus meaning I guess I can take any low-quality meat and enjoy it with no risk of food poisoning...

Dead please. If the meat starts bleeding when I cut into it, then it's alive. If there's pink in the middle, then it's alive.

But to be honest, I was rather sheltered from the possibilities of "rare" foods. Where I grew up (Jamaica) most foods are cooked to the "dead" proportions. I also don't enjoy over-easy or sunny-side-up eggs. The sight of them (much like bleeding meat) just turns me off. So well done for me. I have tried medium well, and that was okay too, but just not my first choice.

Well done. My natural instincts after having had really bad food poisoning as a child say pink=bad. I don't really eat steak much anyway.

I also don't enjoy over-easy or sunny-side-up eggs. The sight of them (much like bleeding meat) just turns me off.

To me, I read "sunny side up" as "too fucking lazy to flip the damn egg". They certainly don't taste any better so that's the only possible reason I can come up with.
