I really want to get it, but I barely have time to play Skyrim, so I can't exactly justify another 60 dollar purchase.

I might consider it but the specs are really high, and bearing in mind the last one was not the best port ever...

I personally LOVED the game but a few things sorta erked me.. mainly they took away more interesting activities than they added and the few they did add were sorta retooled versions of something already in the game before. (Cyber version of the fire running over racing game.... don't remember the name at the moment but it was fun. Tank version of mayham which I always brought a big armored something to do anyway. Tiger version of Escort... which sucks normally anyway) none of which added much to the activity on a gameplay level. Genki and guardian angel were the only "new" new activities and one was only 2 levels long and ended while playing the story anyway but in the transistion we lost FUZZ (one of the greatest activities) and bodyguard (also entertaining as all hell)

The clothing selection has been brought up already..

And while I liked the more central focused story idea I think they'd of done better keeping it to three separates that tie together in the final chapters. The three group idea meant you got to learn more about the characters on both sides tied with it. Rest is going into a spoiler tag for obvious reasons. Story spoilers.. also this will be a bit of a text wall I'll break it down by character though.

At the end you don't really get much on the main villians so to speak sense half of them get killed off so randomly it doesn't matter. The guy set up as the main bad guy.. you know.. the one that ENDS gat in the 2nd level... dies at the end of act 1. Who the hell he was and how he got to pull together bad guy inc. you never get to know. He dies and never brought up again.

You lose one of the dewinter sisters right at the start of act 2 and the other pulls a heelface turn right afterwards. Which you might not figure for a few levels ends one of the 3 main gangs in steel port. Also dead sister never brought up again aside from one or two snide remarks from living sisters which killbane comes up in conversation. (Also she takes over shandi's role as team girl till the end of the game.

On the subject of Shandi.. She gets no real resolution for her issues sense all the people she blamed for gat's death are now dead or playing for team saints. No bitchy fight or anything between them.. nothing to bring a closure to her personal drama sense she never gets to really dish out any well deserved vengeance or acceptance for Gat's death. The only character who gets any screen time in this game from the last group was.. pierce of all people.. what the hell was with that? Gat dies 10 minutes into the game and shandi drops off the face of the earth in a huff to be replaced by some new girl you were set up to dislike then feel sorry for.

The decker kid at least gets some screen time but never gets to feel like a major threat as with one minor exception he never does anything to directly antagonize the saints. The most you get on him as a threat is some backstory between him and hacker girl (the only one of your people who gets some characterization throughout her chapter)

Killbane who ends up the main antagonist by the end... ends up stealing all the characterization among the bad guys going out of their way to make sure you know he's a massive dick and complete monster who needs to die... problem is most of his characterization ends up outside of his major act sense he shares half his gangs story time with STAG and Zombies leaving little time for angel his saint side rep to come out as a character.

I have it, but I just don't know. It lacks something compared to the first two. I don't know what it is, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe because Gat isn't in it, but I don't know. Some of the dialogue is freaking hilarious though and the guy who did the Standard Male American voice should get a fucking medal he is such a talented voice actor :p Don't get me wrong; it's a good game. Yet, it lacks the magic of the first two :(

Less cut scenes to explain the story aswell as complete removal for actives so you
don't know why you are doing the things you do
Unless you pay attention to the actual dialogue, at which point you know exactly why you're doing it. Even if the reasons are stupid.
I did defiantly pay attention to dialog but never at any point did they say exactly why I am going around trying to blow up as much as possible in mayhem for instance. Just the over all explanations and story to the game felt a lot thinner than that last.

I unfairly think of my bad experiences with GTA games when considering this one. I doubt I'll ever pick it up..or at least not until it's $5 on a steam sale and I'm bored enough to try.

I'm happy with Mafia 2, inFamous and Batman as my sandbox titles of choice.

I've been thinking of picking it up once I'm done with the semester, but I have been curious if it is significantly good to just skip the other two games and go straight to it. I haven't bought any Saints Row game and am looking for something different from my usual games that SR seems to fill. Is this game significantly better to justify the $60 or would my money be better spent getting one of the previous games (assuming I am only going to get one)?

I can confirm you either weren't paying attention or are lying.

I can't confirm which, but I'm not sure I care, either.

Mission activities are generally explained by the people who offer them in the story missions, and if not are given in context within the actual activity. Some, like Snatch, offer multiple explanations multiple times.

my thoughts exactly

this to my opinion is because of the focus on all the whack

because I'd have loved some cutscenes for proffesor genki
Seeing why that exists and why I'm doing it

The commentary is great though, but it's a shame there's no tie-in

No more cutscenes and no more advanced lvling activities

that's just taking away a lot for me

2 is probably going to be the definitive title. I think I may still go back to it after playing this game. There's more crazy shit in this one, though. I mean, if you want to call down airstrikes or fly through an airplane, ninja kicking the bad guy before going out the other end, this is the game.

SR2 probably has the most replayability, and it certainly has the most options. But more doesn't automatically equate to better.

Its just several different shades of awesome. But to be honest, I feel that it doesnt measure up to Saints Row 2. But really it is just awesome.

I could not wait for this game, especially after getting my head out of my ass and playing SR2. I always assumed this game had some thug theme, which turned me off to the series. Yes you can indulge in that theme, but is in no way mandatory, making for a zany and frankly unforgettable experience. Most of my recent awesome stories involving video games involve Saint's Row 2 or 3.

I do, the game is really fun, in a similiar way to number 2, though it has less total content in terms of diversions and just general dickin around stuff. However, the actual missions and cutscenes in the game are leaps and bounds above saints row 2, which were already good in that regard, seriously, they are some awesome shit.

Which brings me to the reason I'm trading my copy in tommorow, they removed the feature to rewatch cutscenes and replay missions from your cribs, which just destroyed everything for me, since once you clear the game there isn't really anything to do but start over and make a new guy, which is a pain in the ass, since the game is ALOT more progression and upgrade centric then number 2.

All in all, if you don't mind having to make a new character after you beat the game, its still a great title to play, but alot more focussed, they shaved a bunch of the "style" content out to make room for the incredibly well built missions.

Consider it a recommendation as long as you aren't painfully OCD about having to make new characters (Like me :p).

And for anyone who catches on, yes I am having problems with skyrim because of that exact same thing. WTB a perk point farming method xD...of course skyrim is still too damn good to trade in, obviously.

Edit: I decided it was worth noting that as with number 2, your character really has a tendency to grow on you, like, alot. By the end of the game I was crazy invested in the story of the saints, cus my dude with his light blue ponytail, pink long sleeved shirt baggy anime cat pants, steampunk goggles etc etc metrosexual etc, was just such a sincerely charming bad ass. And I blame the facial animations and the frikkin genius of a voice actor for the general english male option. He will be missed <3.

That is the one dissapointment I have with SR3. I played SR2 first, than tried SR1. Between them, SR1 was alot more GTA, basically GTA:SA's with more focus on the gangs aspect. SR2 was just plain awesome. I expected SR3 to thus be like SR2, but alas, no. But with what there is, Im enjoying it still.

I'm sorry, what?
This game is horrible in comparison to SR2.

Can somebody from this thread please play Co-op with me and show me exactly what I'm missing. All I see is a ruined SR2 clone, with terrible graphics, a lacking story and gameplay that's already boring as I've already extensively played SR2.
The only thing I can find to do is blow stuff up, it gets boring... fast. There's no secrets, no depth, nothing to unlock... diversions are worse versions of SR2, meaning I've already done them, and they're boring. The lacking character creation and lack of weapons make it hard to make characters that are actually different, so there's even less to do.

I can find nothing fun in this game,
I need to know what you see in it one way or another. Tell me, show me, I don't mind which.

I had it. Was annoying as hell to install, then the sound didn't work at all. Returned it.

In GTA San Andreas and 4 I've never found the controls fluid or fun. It always feels off and simply destroys the experience. Driving can be fun in spurts, but quickly grows tedious in its repetition.

Simply put, GTA as a series feels like I'm playing a substandard driving game, a terrible brawler and a mediocre action game.

I'd prefer the freedom a game like Saints Row offers over GTA..but I have little faith in the control feeling natural and the combat system actually being fun (like Uncharted/Batman)
