I want to get it, but money is tight on the game front right now.

So I'm pretty much hoping that a copy of the 360 version drops into my lap.

Did anyone else remake their SR2 character and play thru? I was so pleased the dodgy londoner voice was still there and it let me recreate myself as the long haired fat bloke that I am, a fat bloke who can batter anyone in a fight tho (in game at least!)

Keeping the voice artists meant my created character got to feel a sense of progression from SR 2 to 3.

I'd prefer the freedom a game like Saints Row offers over GTA..but I have little faith in the control feeling natural and the combat system actually being fun (like Uncharted/Batman)
I personally find the controls to work great except brawling, which there isn't much of to begin with. I would never argue on the strength of its brawling controls, but in terms of driving/shooting/etc., I'd say it's pretty damn good.

ESPECIALLY compared to GTAIV.

I know this isn't going to be enough to sway you or anything, and you really shouldn't just take me at my word anyway, but it's much, MUCH better than GTAIV in all those respects.

Almost. I changed her hairstyle and rather than go black suit jacket+white shirt+purple tie I went black suit jacket+purple slightly unbuttoned shirt. In my mind, she was the same character who simply got a haircut and changed her outfit for something a little more relaxed.

Basicly, is it just as fun as the second?
In my opinion? Yes. The one thing I think Saints Row 3 is really lacking is the ability to play past missions (a feature inexplicably gone after SR2). Beyond that though, I think they took everything that made SR2 great and did better with SR3.

Except for Shaundi. I miss my Stoner Slut :(
SR3 also got rid of most of the GOOD activities from SR2: Fight Club, Crowd Control, Septic Avenger, FUZZ (I loved fuzz very much...) all gone. And yet they kept Drug Trafficking and Escort? The two WORST activities from SR2! WHY!?

Oh, and the new Tiger Escort thing is just annoying.

On the flip side I did still enjoy it, I thoroughly enjoyed the new Professer Genki's game show activity and I liked the story missions and characters as much as I did in SR2 (which is saying something).

Anyone notice that the freefalling is basically AAAAA! the indie game, and Prof Genki's is essentially 'The Club', I'm wondering if there's any other gaming tributes in there, apart from the very spoiler worthy stuff attached to a certain gang, that is.

I've been thinking of picking it up once I'm done with the semester, but I have been curious if it is significantly good to just skip the other two games and go straight to it. I haven't bought any Saints Row game and am looking for something different from my usual games that SR seems to fill. Is this game significantly better to justify the $60 or would my money be better spent getting one of the previous games (assuming I am only going to get one)?
2 is probably going to be the definitive title. I think I may still go back to it after playing this game. There's more crazy shit in this one, though. I mean, if you want to call down airstrikes or fly through an airplane, ninja kicking the bad guy before going out the other end, this is the game.
All of those sound like things I want to do, but I will probably bow to your 'expert' advice and save money.

For me SR2 is still better than SR:TT. Let's just hope the upcoming "Gentlemen of Steelport" [http://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/index.php?threads/gentlemen-of-steelport-compilation.8/] mod can fix it.

Having spent 40 hours beating the game, I say it's 75% pure awesomeness, 25% slight disappointment. The disappointment comes down to the story and activities.

On the story front, it's a case of stuff not quite having the impact they should from the death of a major character to the ultimate showdown. Everything works well enough as a collection of wild-ass missions, but I can't ever say I was particularly drawn in by any of the story threads and the new characters, while cool, just don't have the same impact as previous introductions, such as Shandi. On the subject of Shandi, the actress change was a bit of a mistake. Eliza Duschku was pretty much pitch-perfect as the happy-go-lucky stoner party girl who wasn't really hardcore enough to be hanging with the Saints... and while I'm cool with the more upscale version of the character, none of the previous character beats seem to be there, as the new actress only seems to be playing the badass on a vendetta role, perhaps not realizing that she's basically there to get kidnapped.

As for Activities, in previous games the Activities have been either in tune with the main missions or more over the top. Most of the activities simply carried over from the second game and are a massive come-down from the main missions (doubly so for the Activies that are Main Missions). Professor Genki, Tank Mayhem, Tiger Escort, and Heli Assault are really the only ones that fit in with the campaign. And while I'm not really a big fan of the first two games having six instances of an activity at every location (this makes it a huge grind to completely finish the game), the one per location (and all of them being pretty easy) meant I actually finished the game to 100% in 40 hours instead of having lots of content. Having had a blast with Whored Mode, I wish they had brought that into the main game, because beating gut-toting hookers to death with a giant dildo would have made a great activity. Likewise a rickshaw race or fighting giant mascots.

But I forgive the game for these minor flaws for the ability to jump into a freakin' car. I can't tell you how irritating it is to be on a serious time limit, baddies gunning at you as you race for the car, then you slowly open the car door and step in... totally ruins the mood of the scene.
