3. I want to watch the world burn!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

How long is this experiment going to go, though? I mean there's no set number of people entering the contest, and there's no doubt thousands of people on the escapist. you could stop the experiment once, if it ever, reaches the point where the percent of people who pick 3 are less than the everyone gets nothing point, or vice versa.
So many variables, and ways to skew the results!

+3

This isn't for real, so there's no risk involved in going with +3. The worst (well best since it will be amusing) that can happen is I get called a horrible person by someone who either fails to realize this isn't real or fails to realize that I realized this isn't real.
You've basically helped steal our internets from right out of our mouths. How does it feel, being a monster?

I chose one because I knew that far too many people would choose 3 internets for whatever reason and I refuse to be part of the nonexistent problem.

At the time of voting, I was the 100th person to vote.
And it seems the 70th person to vote +1. Exactly 70 / 30, well done ladies and gentlemen.

I'm sure any individual could give a good reason for voting either. But mob mentality - as a population, IQ generally goes down. It would be interesting to see this experiment repeated in different cultures/societies, I see many cultures bent towards "the greater good" and more willing to sacrifice for the general population, now or in the future - Japan of course, for example. There are exceptions, but I believe that's the rule.

So this is basically a form of prisoner's dilemma yeah?

A strict interpretative 'self-interested rational' choice is to always go for the self-beneficial option, which is the three. But in such a case the result is worse than cooperating if everyone makes that same rational choice.

Of course people don't always make completely rational logic choices. And it doesn't take into account human cooperative bias.

As everyone else has already said, this is the prisoner's dilemma / basic game theory. So yes, I voted for 3 because in the end, it doesn't matter. Enough people will be greedy enough to choose 3 that it ultimately doesn't matter what I choose.

THe problem with your experiment as pointed out is that the participants are perfectly aware of what it is happening (that it is a simple form of the prisoners dilemma and that there is a Nash equilibrium for, and what the sensible solution is) and as such some poeple (such as myself) will fuck up with poll results. Aside form that having a thread where poeple can tell their answers, it will show nothing more than the willingness of people of answer as an "uncompromised" viewr or not. So.. this isn't an even single blind experience.

I chose +1 cause nobody is actually gonna take it seriously enough to be smart about it and choose +1 (Case in point, +3 has way above 30% right now). As others have said, messed up poll results cause "LAWL, STIK IT 2 THA MAN" or something like that

INTERNETS FOR EVERYONE! No, wait, scratch that. Internets for no one. A shame really, I could have done with an internet or two.

I vote 0... because not everyone can get the internet, let alone at a stable and fair rate per one's lifetime...

Other than that, despite my [lack of an actual] vote, I refuse to see the results...

Given the poll results, it looks like I have. Bwahahahahahahaha!!!! I can't wait to see what else I can take away from people!

This experiment is simple, you may receive either +1 internets, or +3 internets based on how you vote. However, if more than 10% of people vote for +3, nobody gets any internets. Please vote, (Without viewing results first) and then tell me why you voted the way you did.
SOUPLEX! Man, it's been forever since I've seen you around!

Anyway, I chose +1 internet. So everyone could have internetz.

I'm also vaguely cognizant that this can't possibly be the prisoner's dilemma; it must be something else. In fact, it more reminds me of a gimped version of that movie, The Button. The fundamental question here is whether or not ensuring your own well being would be better than everyone else's is worth the price of potentially ensuring everyone is LESS well off. It's about preserving a privilege, not avoiding a punishment, and that's going to screw with how the game works. Furthermore, the caveat is that the majority DOESN'T have the power here; it only takes a fraction of the total to fuck things up for everyone, and that functionally puts EVERYONE at a disadvantage.

Something else I noticed; while different people had different options for choosing the +3 option (so they could have more internet, so NO ONE could have internet, they wanted to play the system, they wanted to break the game, fuck the police, ect) there wasn't a lot of variation on why people picked the +1 option; it was so everyone could have +1 internet. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm sure it means something.

...I'm a guess this has something to do with politics. A majority of the people wanting something for everyone, but a handful of people wanting more than everyone else fucking it up for literally everyone? That sounds like politics to me.

I voted +1 internets, because 1) I don't really care about how many I have, and 2) People are greedy and will more than likely go for +3, so someone needs to try to keep the ratio down.

I voted +3 in the hope that nobody will get any Internets.
I generally tend to base my decisions on the good old raised middle finger line of reason.

1, cause this is an old social experiment and 1 is the answer I'm supposed to give to show I'm all clever and enlightened.
