So, i'm assuming you've all seen the latest showings from E3. I know that i'm still enjoying the new flowing out of LA, but one thing that i chose to take issue with is the Splinter Cell series. Now don't get me wrong, i'm a massive fan of all Sam Fishers endeavors, yes including Pandora Tomorrow. But when i saw the new trailer and game play a number of things struck me as odd.

1. Sam appears to be considerably taller.
2. Sam has clearly been given a new voice, which just doesn't seem to fit.
3. Sam looks younger than he does in conviction. (time magic obviously)
4. With the liquidation of 3rd echelon, and Sam running 4th he has the ability to grant 5th freedom at any given moment. Goodbye stealth.

So what are your opinions on the subject? I'm not particularly offended by the changes, nor am i going to complain. It's not my place to moan to someone who's going to gift me with another Splinter cell game. But this is certainly an interesting subject of debate.

I think we've just seen a cinematic trailer that doesn't really allow any conclusions to be drawn.

Remember the Hitman trailers? if you don't know, there was a massive fan outcry that stealth within the game was dead. Now that there's gameplay being shown, they all had to shut their stupid complaining mouths. I do hope the splinter cell fanbase will at least wait for some gameplay untill they start complaining.

That being said I think conviction was a nice game but the action focus made it kind of repetitive. Your options were kind of kill kill aaaand kill some more. So I hope they give the player some more options.

And lastly i'm already sad about the amount of I WANT THE OLD SPLINTER CELL BACK threads we've had and how much more there are going to be untill this game releases.

With no Michael Ironside it is effectively dead.

Still, the demo is funny. *sam pulls trigger*..."He shot himself".

I agree completely, the entire series is phenomenal, I'm definitely holding out hope for this game, it by no means looks bad and i'm going to buy it regardless of my own worries. Here's hoping they can smooth the rough edges before release. :D

The series died to me with Conviction, so I'm not surprised.

Personally, i enjoyed Conviction as more of a "stand alone" game, you know? The story of Sam as he goes renegade to exact his revenge. But i would have preferred the series to go back to stealth game play for Blacklist. As long as there is the option to go stealth instead of being forced down an action orientated path. But like I said, Sam can go 5th freedom when ever he wants, and that hurts the stealth option a great deal, at Least in Conviction there was a great deal of the game that you could play in stealth, there was even achievements for it.

There's a new Splinter Cell coming?

*watches gameplay preview*

Huh. My verdict: Uuurrgghh.

It's gone down the same path as Arkham City. You're so loaded with gadgets and abilities that balance and challenge go out the window in the name of making the player feel "badass".

Admittedly, I've never much cared for Splinter Cell. The whole "Prohtect Amuricah's free-ness from them eevil Russians/Chinese/brown people " turned me off right from the first game and the gameplay was never really all that.

PS. Why must every recent Ubisoft action game have an automatically-kill-three-dudes button?

Thanks for calling me stupid.

Anyway, I haven't kept quiet. The fact that they fired Diana's and 47's voice actor is a really bad move and coupled with the fact that Jesper Kyd won't be doing the music means that this won't be a true hitman game to me. Oh yeah, the plot makes no sense as he is fighting his old employers while at the end of BM he was going to fight that other company.

I'm treating it like a reboot
Sorry if I offended you, but from my point of view these "fans" have been bashing the game online for months for not having stealth without a shred of evidence. I'm not saying I was 100% it would be sure, I was just saying let's wait for some reviews or the full product before shouting shit like that.

On the voice actors. I am bummed on the voice actors getting kicked and kyd's soundtracks were always great. But I didn't play the game for either of those things and i'm sure the game can be just as good or better without them. Yes they can also fuck that up but what i've seen now looks great. I know gamers tend to complain on the internet but lately it seems like freaking overkill.

Now on topic

splinter cell looks pretty flashy but i'm unsure if it will stay interesting for a long time. There will have to be some quality levelbuilding and set pieces to keep me interested to all this. (or maybe unlockable special kills?). Conviction was good game with a pretty good story and great level design, but it also got stale before I finished it. Let's hope ubisoft will be able to dodge that bullet with this one

I've never been a big fan of the "protect America" thing myself, being Irish i care very little about it, i prefer the story being driven by Sam. Like in Chaos Theory when he has to kill Douglas Shetland, he needed to separate work from friendship. But the Mark and Execute ability I think was included to make the game more accessible to those less familiar with the more measured approach to killing from the previous games.

PS: i like your name for "marking". "Automatically-Kill-Three-Dudes" button :D

No offence taken, my main concern with Blacklist is how Sam seemed to recruit the man in the CG trailer. Does this mean its going to be like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker? Or am i just reading to much into it?
By the way, in the CG trailer, was that Victor Coste with the sniper rifle? If it was i cant help but think there will be character recruitment, after all Vic was in the private security/PMC buisness. Purely speculation of course.

My entire thought was: Fuck that! Seriously, it's like Assassin's Creed without the stealth. Bring back Michael Ironside, and I'll think about it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play some Chaos Theory.

No game is just like the other, sure there is less sneaking, but it's still Splinter Cell, just worse than Chaos Theory probably, won't change the fact i'll still probably enjoy it, because I'm almost 100 % sure there will still be more sneaking than shooting.

If you want that more short: It's still a Splinter Cell game, and not dead.

I voted "yes" simply because there is no Michael Ironside. He IS Sam Fisher. Many have made the David Hayter / Solid Snake comparison because it is apt. If Ubisoft were smart (and Watch Dogs proves that they have some real brains there at Montreal) they'd get Ironside into the recording booth before the shutters even go down on E3. I can live with "mark and execute", I can live with the running around in broad daylight, but I can't live without the "no bullshit", gravel voice of Michael Ironside.

Call me shallow, but them's the facts for me.

BTW, Chaos Theory was the pinacle of stealth game perfection IMO.

I just want to point out, Michael Ironside is still in contract with Ubisoft as creative advisor for the character of Sam Fisher on Blacklist.

So, the voice actors and music will be different, so its not the same game? Even though the gameplay trailer shows it to be the same game aside from the tutorial level they showed us? Also, how can you judge the plot, the game isn't out yet, we don't know how he ends up fighting his employers.

On the subject of splinter cell, i'm willing to give it a chance. Conviction was fun and made me feel like a badass and the stealth wasn't actually dead. Sure, you had to kill people (bad move) but moving around a room and picking off bad guys one by one is fun. I still pick it up for how good the co-op is.

Then again, maybe its because I think they'll do co-op that i'm willing to forgive them. I love me some co-op.

They did WHAT? Really? That just sucks. 47 had the same VA for all his games so far.
Damn.

Back on topic: I haven't actually bothered watching the stuff for blacklist. I'm not particularly interested after conviction. Sure it was fun but it wasn't really stealth, not in the same way.

I would think it unfair to judge a game based off the limited knowledge most of us have on the product. Conjecture and hear-say don't make for good perspectives.
