I am a long time Star Trek fan, and you can see from my review how much I enjoyed it. The film while being a lot faster paced is not unintelligent, with the focus still being on the characters, all of whom are well developed.Ixal said:I have mixed feelings about this film.
Many people say that the film is great, but from the trailers the film just looks like some unintelligent action flick with loots of CGI explosions and empty characters trimmed to "cool" and that not really what I want from a film, Star Trek or not.
I have read a bit about the plot and that doesn't sound that intelligent to me. Compared to my favourite ST film (ST: 6) this one looks like a simple action film with a weak plot. A pity that Star Trek became mainstream now. That was probably the only way to save Star Trek, but imo sometimes it is better to let something die instead of mutilating it.Simriel said:I am a long time Star Trek fan, and you can see from my review how much I enjoyed it. Seriously? The Undiscovered Country is what you'd call complex?Ixal said:Compared to my favourite ST film (ST: 6) this one looks like a simple action film with a weak plot. Where have I said that ST 6 is complex? Compared to some mindless action films it might be and from the trailers the new Star Trek does look awfully like a mindless action film to me, but in itself ST6 is not what I would call complex.McClaud said:Seriously? Dude, that is the weakest Star Trek movie out of all of the TOS ones. Since when is a campy piece of crap a good Star Trek movie?
I finally get it. My fellow 80's Star Trek fans have all gone f'ing insane.

I don't understand tbh. So what you are saying is that they ripped off Star Wars? No. No, they did not. Or that you hate all space action films and all action films in general? If that's the case, I'd understand not having fun with this either, although I would wonder what the hell is wrong with youCliff_m85 said:Short Review:
Star Trek doesn't live up to the past movies that it spawned. Gone are the joyous space battles with lively multiple alien cultures (only a few space fights are presented, only 3 alien cultures touched upon) and we have it replaced with a new story arc for the main character. The main character no longer has found his mother and father murdered and swears revenge, now the character has just lost a father and is dared to do better than him. They completely took out the character of Han Solo and Chewbacca, replacing them with Spock and some Irish dude.
No lightsabers neither, but pistols instead.
In closing, I was completely let down.

When i saw it saturday night i felt the same way too! I wish mass effect had more epic space battles like in the movie...WillSimplyBe said:Oh, and... Am I the only one who saw this movie and then immediately got the hankering to play Mass Effect?
I have no choice in the matter. My writer's spirit inevitably will attract me to this movie: the desire to criticize it into the DIRT is just far too strong.Flying-Emu said:No, my friend!
