Impressive! Exactly the kind of posting I was hoping for.Alucard 11189 said:As everyone else has said, I would watch 4-6 first, then 1-3. They watched 4-6 on a different day, and she said it would have been better if they watched 4-6 first.
Actually, A New Hope was the actual title of Episode 4, the first Star wars Movie. To be honest, that title really bugged me when I first saw the movie. I felt like I missed important parts of a story by starting with Episode 4. The intro text made it even worse, referring to a galaxy-wide war I never heard of.Phlakes said:Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back - Return of the Jedi.
What's this New Hope you're talking about? And another trilogy? Do you mean the Clone Wars cartoon?
Don't mention it. I hope she enjoys the filmsThaliur said:Impressive! Exactly the kind of posting I was hoping for.Alucard 11189 said:As everyone else has said, I would watch 4-6 first, then 1-3. I'll go with the majority and take 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 as the correct order. No need to repeat mistakes that were already made, right?
Thank you

Now that I'm thinking about it...
Did the storyline for episodes 1 to 3 exist when the first movie was made? And if not, why did they make the first movie episode 4?
Nice, I'm going to have to look that up at some point.SomeLameStuff said:Black Rock Shooter. It was a picture, then a song, then an anime. Now it's a game for the PSP.Kungfu_Teddybear said:That annoys me so much. It didn't make him look like a bad guy, it made him look like a badass.
Slightly off-topic here, but what's your avatar from? It looks awesome.
It is rather kickass isn't it? You won't believe the amount of editing I had to do to make the Escapist accept it.
Dude, how could you even think of watching Star Wars numerically?! You'd ruin episodes 4-6's plot points if you did that! Shame on you!Thaliur said:Hello Escapists,
I've recently learned that my girlfriend, although she often uses references to characters, quotes or events in those movies, never actually saw Star Wars.
I plan to correct that, and since I made that decision, I'm trying to figure out the correct order to watch them.
So, which order do you think is better for a first-time viewer who usually doesn't really care for action movies?
The chronological order - starting with Episode 1, and basically following the timeline
The "traditional" order - how most fans have seen it. First Episodes 4 to 6, and then 1 to 3, which provide, and in some cases bend, warp and break background information.
Also, I want a sane vote, no "the prequels suck, just leave them" rubbish. Please think about your answer and, if you care, provide some explanation for your vote in a post.
Apparently, I screwed up the poll...
If possible, could a mod add it with the two options "traditional" and "chronological"?
This is actually a great idea. I especially like the flashback variation.Cerdog said:As many others have said, 4-5-6-1-2-3 is the better option. However, there are some other, more "creative" options, you could consider:
1) 4-5-1-2-3-6. Starting with 4 and 5 gives you the proper start and brings in the Vader reveal as early as is reasonably possible. The prequels are then like a flashback, to explain whether or not the reveal is true. You then see how Luke copes with it afterwards.
2) 4-1-2-5-3-6. This is similar to the previous order, but you see a bit of the backstory first. Episode 3 then "completes" the information you have.
3) 1-4-2-5-3-6. This way, you see the stories of Luke and Anakin in parallel. It is basically the same as 2), but I would consider it a bit worse, as it's probably best to start with 4.
4) 3-2-5-6-1-4. The Pulp Fiction order.
There are other options, such as 4-1-5-2-3-6, 1-2-4-5-3-6, and so on. Really, as long as you start with 4, end with 6 and keep the trilogies in chronological order, you'll be fine. It's worth giving one of these a go if you haven't shown her too many yet.
Yep, I second that, good description, I typically watch 1-6 instead of 4-3 (think about it), but the latter is the way they were released in rl, and the older 3 kick the crap out of the newer ones, the newer ones kinda just pay homage as well.Saelune said:4-6 first then 1-3. The first 3 seem to want to explain why 4-6 happened how it did, as opposed to 4-6 showing the continued events from 1-3.
